Paper plates were held down with half-full lemonade glasses. Above and to the west of the fenced backyard, fireworks burst in the dark sky. Huge magnificent explosions, tiny little rockets, zooming and shooting and bursting through the atmosphere.

Sam nibbled on her barbeque sandwich, watching the festivities with bright eyes. She turned to Janet and smiled, spotting the small brown stain in the corner of Janet's lips.

She bent down, out of sight of the rest of the team, and kissed a very surprised Janet.

Their first kiss was tangy, sweet and spicy. And the barbecue sauce had nothing to do with it.
