Samantha Carter closed down the bars. She was the last to leave, she was the life of the party, she 'bought the bar a double round of Crown,' as the song said. Her motorcycle seldom parked in the garage before midnight, her neighbors had complained more than once.

Friday night rolled around and Sam had bought only six beers. Four went into the fridge and she carried two to Janet. As she settled onto the couch and let Janet start the DVD she'd rented, Sam felt the other woman's weight rest against her.

There were things to be said for being homebodies.
