Sam played with the seatbelt, leaned her head against the window and shifted back and forth in her seat. The team had spent the last four weeks navigating a large nebula on their way back from Netu. Apophis was gone, as far as they knew. Teal'c was in the prison van behind them. Best of all, she'd spent the past few days examining nebula and comets up close and personal.

It was her childhood dream, a fantasy of hers, to be among those stars. To be able to see everything without a telescope, not to worry about city lights. And yet, she couldn't wait to get away from them. She couldn't wait to get home; to step into the house she now felt comfortable calling her own.

They had landed Apophis' ship at Area 51's air strip. Now, the trek back to the SGC was taking ages. She bounced her leg up and down, chewing on her thumb, checking her watch constantly. Daniel finally looked over at her, raising an eyebrow. "It's all right, Sam. There'll be more nebulas to watch and more comets riding shotgun with us." He smiled and touched her arm.

"What?" she asked, turning to look at him.

He smiled. "Are you thinking about the nebulas?"

Sam smiled thoughtfully. "No. Something more spectacular."

Sam went into the house, searching frantically. They needed her at the SGC, needed her assistance with Teal'c's deprogramming. But she wouldn't be able to concentrate. She had forty-five minutes. Forty-five minutes, far too much of which was eaten up with driving time. She searched the lower floor before realizing that Janet would be asleep in preparation of the late shift.

She hurried upstairs, bursting into their bedroom. Janet was curled on her side, buried under her grandmother's quilt, peacefully sleeping. Sam stopped at the foot of the bed, catching her breath, watching Janet sleep. She stepped forward and touched Janet's hair.

Nebulas, comets, solar flares, everything they'd seen on their trip back to Earth, everything that had been just beyond the window... why had she only been able to think of seeing this woman, this face? Watching this hair fall through her fingers like sand?

She leaned forward, kissing Janet's temple and letting her lips linger. The stars, comets, special phenomena... they'd all gotten old after a few days. Hell, a few hours if she was being honest. But this? This beautiful, sleeping woman with creases from the pillow on her face? This woman whose mouth was slightly open, whose eyes were fluttering with some dream?

Sam could be entranced with this sight for hours.
