Pairing: Sam/Janet

Disclaimer: I own none of these here characters, although I wish I did (especially Sam). They all belong to the lucky people at MGM and Gekko, and I promise to leave them were I found them after I’m finished, honest.

Summary: Sam realises just what she’s missing out on when Janet leaves for good.

Comments: My first eva slash fic I read a lot of it but never written anything before. So go easy on the criticism I don’t think my alter ego can take it lol.

Sam couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“Janet’s what?”

“She’s leaving Sam. Probably just about to pull out of her drive actually.”

“she can’t. what about her work, Cassie. What about ME!”

“Sam I don’t know what happened between you two but whatever it was Janet was really upset by it, in fact she looked devastated.”

“Why didn’t she tell me or talk to me? I’m sorry I have to go stop her.”

“Sam wait you’ll never catch her in time!” shouted Daniel

Sam stopped dead in her tracks. He was right she would never catch Janet in time. Then it hit her and she turned to Daniel.

“Daniel where is Janet going?”

“Whoa …..What? I don’t know.” He lied

“Daniel if there’s on thing I know about you its that you’re a crap liar. Now where is Janet going?”

“Sam I can’t tell you. I promised Janet I wouldn’t. hell I promised I wouldn’t even tell you she was leaving but I thought you deserved that much.”

“Daniel pleeaaassee” pleaded Sam “ I need to see her. Daniel this could be the most important thing in my life ever. Please Daniel where is she?”

Daniel sighed deeply before speaking. He couldn’t keep this from Sam he had to tell her. He couldn’t stand to see her hurt.

“ok but you know she’ll never forgive me for this.”

“Daniel I understand the position I’m putting you in.” sighed Sam exasperatedly. “but please could you just tell me where she is!”

“Alright! She applied for a job about 3 weeks ago and got offered it last week. She accepted it and then decided it best not to tell you about it. I don’t know why but she demanded I keep this a secret. Ok there. What are you gonna do now?”

“I’m gonna go after her. I can’t just let her leave she’s too important to me!”

Sam stopped herself saying any more. She was right Janet was too important to her more than she thought possible, and it took Janet leaving for her to realise it.

Sam about turned and run full pelt to the elevator in the hope she could catch Janet.

`How could she do this? Just up and leave without a word. I felt a distance growing that’s why I asked if everything was alright but she said everything was fine. If she’d just talked to me, said something. Damn it Janet why didn’t you give me a chance`?

Sam was in her car and driving towards Janet’ house in the hope she might just catch her before she left. Sam tried phoning her but no-one was answering. One more corner to go. There she is.

Janet’s car was about 3 blocks away. Sam sped up and caught up with her pretty quickly. She was right behind Janet now and was honking her horn like a mad woman. Janet finally noticed and began to slow until stopping finally.

Both women got out of their cars to face each other.

“Janet what are you doing?” whispered Sam

“I’m moving to New York Sam I cant stay here.”

Janet’s face was laced with pain. Sam noticed tear tracks running down Janet’s soft cheek.

“Yes you can Janet. You have to. Your too important here.”

“to who Sam? To General Hammond, to the base……”

“TO ME!” Sam screamed “your too important to me god damn it. I need you here, you can’t leave.”

“you know I’ve been waiting a long time to hear those words come from you.” Janet sobbed. “and you wait till now to tell me.”

“Janet I know it’s lousy timing but I’ve said it and I mean it. Please don’t leave, please.” Pleaded Sam.

“Sam I think it’s too late. I think I need to go. I need space and time to think.”

“Janet please. Please don’t go.” Sam was now pleading with every last bit of energy she had left in her.

“Good-bye Sam.” Janet leaned over and kissed Sam on the cheek. Sam couldn’t move, she couldn’t feel. Hell she had no idea how her body was managing to breath right now.

Janet then got into her car and drove away. Away from her home, away from the SGC, away from Sam.

2 months later

Sam had taken a weeks leave to come to terms with losing Janet. Once back at work Sam buried herself in paper work and experiments. Everyone at the base noticed and General Hammond decided to take matters into his own hands.

“Major Carter I’m ordering you to take a weeks leave. I don’t know what’s wrong with you but I want it sorted in one weeks time and during this time I do not repeat do not want to see you on this base. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes sir. Crystal.”

Sam went straight home after General Hammond had ordered her to take leave.

She arrived home to an empty house with only the noise of the dripping tap to keep her company.

Sam placed her bag down then staggered over to the couch where she cried herself to sleep.

Sam awoke the next morning drunk with sleep, but with a new will.

She was going after Janet!

The next week would be focused solely on getting Janet back to Colorado and back into Sam’s life.

It took all of 20 minutes to arrange plane ticket, transport from the airport and her hotel room. Everything was sorted and nothing was going to come between her and her attempt to get Janet back.

Sam knew where Janet stayed as she had regular up-dates from Cassie. She knew where Janet worked, who her friends where and even where she went to unwind. Which was exactly the information Sam needed. Sam had an hour to get ready and put her plan into action.

It was 8 o’clock and Sam was hiding in a booth in the local bar `Tapping’s Well` waiting for Janet to show up.

Finally she heard the soft familiar voice pass by her booth and come to rest in one on the other side of the bar.

`time for phase two` Sam told herself.

Everything had been arranged so all Sam had to do was wait. About half an hour later the barman approached her and told her it was time. Sam nodded and follow the man

“right ladies and gentlemen” he started “may I have your attention. I thought I’d give Steve a rest for a while. So with me I have a beautiful young lady for one song only, so put your hands together and give her a warm welcome.”

The bar erupted into nose and whistles and then the music started. Sam stepped up to the mic gingerly. It took all of 5 seconds for her gaze to lock with Janet’s, and once Janet could see and recognise just who was on stage her mouth fell open in surprise.

How do I
Get through a night without you
If I had to live without you
What kind of life would that be
Oh I need you in my arms need you to hold
You’re my world my heart my soul
If you ever leave
Baby you would take away everything good in my life

Mmmmmm without you
There’d be no sun in my sky
There would be no love in my life
There’d be no-one left for me
And baby I don’t know what I would do
I’d be lost if I lost
If you ever leave
Baby you would take away everything real in my life

And tell me now
How do I live without you
I want to know
How do I breath without you
If you ever go
How would ever, ever survive
Without you…………….

Sam stopped singing and watched in disappointment as Janet got up and ran out of the bar.

Sam gave chase and hoped she could catch Janet before she left.

“Janet wait please!”

Janet spun round on her heel, eyes ablaze with anger.

“Why did you come here, Sam?” she growled her voice thick with hurt and anger.

“God damn it Janet. What will it take for you to believe that I LOVE YOU?” the last three words were screamed at Janet.

“You don’t Sam you just think you do.” Whispered Janet.

“Why would you say that Janet? How would you know if it was real if you won’t let me show you?”

“Sam please don’t. I can’t handle this right now. I just need space.

“I gave you 2 months of that and before I came here and I’m not leaving until we’ve at least talked. Now I have a weeks leave to try and have this conversation with you Janet. Please.”

Janet gave in. She let out a small sigh and shrugged her shoulders. Janet knew all to well that Sam would try everything to talk to Janet between now and before she had to go home so she may as well get this done and over with.

“Fine. Ok. Meet me here tomorrow at 8 o’clock, and we’ll talk then.”

“Thank you Janet.”

Janet pulled out her car keys and got in and drove off. Sam watched as Janet disappeared down the lonely road. She was gonna make this work if it killed her. It was to good to loose.

8 pm `Tapping’s Well`

Sam had been here since 7:30. Just incase Janet had shown up early but as usual Janet was punctual to the minute.

“Hi” was all Sam managed.

Janet stayed silent and moved to sit in the seat opposite Sam.

“I’m glad you decided to talk to me.”

“Yeah well can we hurry it up I’ve left Cassie with a new friend.”

“Sure no problem.” There was silence while Sam gathered her thought and decided the best route to take.

“I’m in love with you Janet……. And I think your in love with me. If I’m wrong I’ll walk away and never bother you again, but I’m not wrong am I?”

Obviously Sam had decided that the direct route would be best. Janet sat quietly for a while trying her best to figure out what to say to that.

“Sam….. I don’t know what I feel for you right now. I did love you but now I’m not sure. I’ve hurt a lot and I don’t think I’m ready to be hurt again.”

“I’m sorry for everything I’ve done to you Janet but I’m not going to let this go without a fight. I really do love you and I’ll give up everything for you, everything just to be with you, and maybe this will help with how you feel.”

Sam got up out of her chair and walk towards Janet. She stopped face to face with her, noses almost touching. She placed two fingers under Janet’s chin and lifted her head so that eyes meet and locked.

“Janet.” Sam whispered. “I love you and nothing will ever change that. Please come back with me to Colorado. I need you in my life. Please just give me a chance that’s all I’m asking.”

As Sam finished she cupped Janet’s face with both hands and leaned forward to brush Janet’s lips with her own. Then again so that so that their lips melted into each others in a smouldering passion filled kiss. It seemed to last forever. They parted slowly unwilling to fall into the uncomfortable silence they knew would follow. It seemed like hours before someone spoke, but Janet spoke first breaking the silence.

“Sam ….I…..”

“It’s alright you don’t have to say anything.”

Sam fished around in her leather jacket pocket.

“Here” she handed Janet a small piece of paper.” That’s where I’m staying. The numbers there and my room number is on the back. Bye Janet.”

Sam got up and began to slowly walk away. Janet was about to stop her but decided it best not to. Also Sam was ready to turn around and run back to Janet but know that now it was up to Janet. If she wanted this as much as Sam did then she would come and find her.

~ ~ ~ ~

It was one am and Sam was awoken by a fierce knocking on her hotel door. She pulled on her house coat and headed for the door to see who the hell was waking her up at this time in the morning.

“Hello?” she said gruffly.

“Sam?”

“Janet what…I mean why …. No what are doing here?”

“I had to see you.”

Sam opened the door and Janet came in slowly.

“Erm have a seat.”

“No its ok I’ll stand I just came here to do this.”

Janet stared up into Sam’s eyes. She outstretched her arm and snaked it round Sam’s neck and pulled her down, close to her. Their lips meet. It was electric. Everything they felt came out and into that one kiss. They parted slowly taking time to savour the moment.

“Janet?....what was ……why?”

“Sam I love to too and I wish I could stay here tonight but I cant I need to get back for Cassie.”

“Janet …..I. . . . stay please.”

“I cant I really need to get back for Cassie……….why don’t you come with me? Come to my house?”

“what about when Cassie wakes up? She’ll ask questions.”

“then we’ll tell her the truth. You love me and I love you and plus she’s nearly 17 I’m sure she’ll understand.”

Janet moved closer to Sam until their faces were millimetres apart.

“Please Sam. Just come home with me. If anything just to sleep in the same bed as each other. I just wanna wake up with you in the morning.”

A joyful grin crossed Sam’s lips. How could she refuse such a beautiful woman like Janet.

“I would love nothing more in the world than to wake up in you bed with you curled round me.”

The distance closed and Sam an Janet were caught up in a warm embrace.

They left for Janet’s house straight after that. When they got there they kicked off their shoes and went upstairs. As agreed before, that night they just slept. In each others arms safe and loved. But before slipping into the oblivion of sleep Sam kissed the top of Janet’s head and whispered:

“Love you.”

“Love you too.” Whispered Janet back.

Sam was first to wake next morning. Startled at first by the unfamiliar surroundings but then remembered were she was. Curled up in Janet’s with Janet curled up around her.

`How sweet could life be?` Janet stirred but didn’t wake. Sam watched her for a minute. She was so beautiful, so peaceful looking. She reached up and touched Janet’s cheek. Janet stirred again this time waking.

“Morning sleepy.”

“Hmmm.” Breathed Janet happily.

“So are we getting up at all today?”

“Well the thought had crossed my mind but then I was sleeping so I might have been dreaming it. We could just stay in bed all day. Unless you’ve got somewhere you’d rather be?” Janet smiled.

“Now wait, let me think. Somewhere else hmm nope. I think I’m meant to be right here……with you.”

“Ohhh the romantic side to Samantha Carter. I’ve always wanted to see that.”

“Well you’ll be seeing a lot more of it in the near future. Are you going to get Cassie up?”

“nah I think I’ll let her lie in. what time is it anyway?”

Sam removed her arm from around Janet, much to the disappointment of Janet, to look at her watch.

“It’s 11:54. I think we better get up.”

Janet groaned. “Why might I ask would you want to move from where you are right now.”

“Well cause if I don’t I’m gonna loose the rest of the feeling in my arm, and I need to go back to the hotel for a shower and a change of clothes.”

“Ahhhhh! It all makes sense now.” Exclaimed Janet.

“What does?” quizzed Sam.

“You would rather smell nice than spend the whole day in bed with me. Ok. I’ll remember that for future reference.”

“MOM! Who are you talking to in there?” Cassie’s voice cut in.

“Ermm Cass honey you want to come in here for a minute.”

Janet turned to Sam just in time to see the frightened expression on Sam’s face.

“It’ll be all right.” She mouthed.

Sam smiled weakly as the bedroom door opened and in bounded Cassie.

“SAM!”

“Hey kiddo. How’s it going?”

“Great but what are you…. OH MY GOD!”

“What? What is it honey” asked Janet worriedly.

“Did you two finally get it together?”

Janet nodded while Sam stared on in amazement.

“At last. I thought I would be old and wrinkly before you two realised what nuts you were.”

“Janet and Sam stared back speechless.

“What?! I’m a teenager not blind you know.”

“So your ok with this then?” asked Sam

“Yeah totally but one question.”

“Shoot” said Janet.

“When are we moving back to Colorado? I hate it here and I miss all my friends.”

“Well we haven’t talked about that yet honey. But we’ll come to it sometime.”

“OK but make it very soon. Like as soon I leave the room soon. Which I’m doing right now by the way. Sam great to see you.”

Cassie came over to the bed and hugged Sam the gave Janet a kiss on the cheek. She then disappeared downstairs.

“She’s right you know.” Stated Sam. We will have to talk about you moving back. That’s if you want to move back?”

“I do Sam. Believe me I do but right now lets just relax and spend the day together. No worries, no serious talks. Just me… and you.”

Sam beaming with happiness replied, “that sounds great to me Janet absolutely great.”
