8:02 am:

"When are you going to move that spare key from under your doormat?"

Tru Davies awoke with a start, suddenly fully awake. After several months and dozens of rewinding days, Tru had long since gotten used to waking up in a split second. As Tru sat up, she noticed her best friend Lindsay had entered her apartment and sat down on her bed. Remembering her friend's question, she replied "If I move it, how will you find it to get in?"

"Good question.  But I'd rather knock than take the chance that some creep finds it, comes in while you're sleeping and molests you."

"At least then I might get some."

"Ewww,Tru!" Slapping the girl on the leg as Tru giggles.

"I'm sorry Linds." Tru says honestly.

"How long has it been?"

"Too long."

"We need to go out and find you someone."

"Definitely, I just wish I had the time." Tru considers what she just said. *I get more 'time' than anyone else, and it's still not enough to have a life*. Sighing heavily, "My life sucks."

"Come on Tru! It can't be that bad. I mean, after all, you have a job, even if it is the most morbid job ever. And you have a cute friend, who brings you coffee, bagels, and that good cream cheese you like for breakfast." Lindsay said pointedly as she set the aforementioned items down in front of Tru.

"No, I have a 'beautiful' friend. Have I told you recently you are a damn good woman?"

Lindsay blushed under the praise. "Yes, you tell me that every time I bring breakfast. But I don't get tired of hearing it."

"That's good, because I don't get tired of saying it. You know, you feed me, you look out for me, hell… I should just start dating you." Tru says off-handedly as she takes her breakfast into the kitchen.

"At least then I'd know you were dating someone cute."

"You're 'beautiful' Linds. Any guy would be crazy not to be with you. You should start dating again."

"Well, I am seeing someone but…" Lindsay just trailed off, embarrassed.

"Lindsay!" Tru runs over to where Lindsay is still sitting on Tru's bed, jumps on the bed, regressing to the age of 16. "You're seeing someone? Is it love? Who is he? Do I know him? Is he cute?"

Lindsay blushes furiously, "No, it's not love. In fact, I'm going to break it off tonight."

"Why? He boring? Ugly?"

"No, it's not that, It's just… I'm in love with someone else."

"Who?"

"It doesn't matter. I'm not going to tell you who, you'll just make fun of me."

"No I won't! Come on Linds!" Tru's friend remains silent. "Linds? What's wrong?"

"Nothing. Just a bad morning. It was supposed to be my day off right? Well, first my neighbor wakes me up early with his loud music, then I break my favorite coffee mug, and to top it all off, my boss calls and tells me he wants me to come in."

"I'm sorry Linds."

"It's not your fault. You've already perked up my day. Go eat your breakfast. We still meeting up for lunch?"

"Yes, of course."

"Well, I should go. I'll see you at one then." Lindsay gets up and moves towards the door.

"Lindsay?" Tru walks over to her best friend, turns her around so they're face to face. "If this person you're in love with is such a fool that they don't love you, just remember that I do." Tru says seriously as she takes her best friend in her arms and hugs her. "I know it's not the same thing…"

Lindsay hugs her best friend back tightly, "It's close enough. I love you too Tru."

Lindsay got into her car and began to repeatedly bang her head against the steering wheel. Sighing in exasperation, she placed her keys in the ignition and turned. Whispering to herself, "I don't know how much more of this I can take." Shifting the car into drive, she continued on her way to work.

12:45 pm

Tru had been thinking about Lindsay all morning. Something about the encounter she had with her best friend that morning bothered her. Lindsay told her she was in love. Remembering that morning when Lindsay told her, Tru remembered that her friend had a look of sadness on her face. *Sadness? If I was in love, I'd be all smiles! Why was Lindsay sad? Maybe the guy she's in love with is married? Maybe he's already got a girlfriend? Too young? Too old?*

Tru tried all morning to come up with reasons why her best friend was so sad for being in love. She basically came to the conclusion that her friend must be in love with someone she thinks she can't have for some reason. *Lindsay is my best friend, If there's anything I can do to help her, I will! God, it'll be good to help someone who starts out alive for once. I just have to first find out who it is she's in love with. Then maybe I can find out what's making her so sad about it.* With the basic outline of a plan in her mind, she glanced over at her clock and saw that it was 12:50. Grabbing her keys, she ran out of her apartment.

1:05 pm

Running up to the outdoor restaurant, Tru slowed to a walk, reaching the table her friend was at, she leaned against the chair, panting. "I'm so sorry I'm late Lindsay."

Laughing, "Tru, you're always late. Don't worry about it. You wouldn't be late if you would only get yourself a car."

Tru smiled back at her friend. "And how am I going to pay for it? With the peanuts they pay me at the morgue?"

As Tru seated herself, Lindsay ran her eyes over Tru's well-toned body. "Although, all this running around you do does keep you in fiiine shape."

As her friend leered at her pointedly, Tru's eyes widened. "Lindsay!" Tru exclaimed, blushing. The two friends had always flirted with each other, ever since high school. It was a game they both enjoyed, but a game nonetheless. This time, it seemed different. It was stronger, more intense. While Tru still loved it, something about it was different. The look her friend had just given her made Tru's breath quicken and her stomach tighten. She saw her best friend lean over the table and press her nose into the flower sitting in a vase on their table. *Lindsay IS gorgeous though…*

Lindsay knew her gaze was making her friend uncomfortable, so she decided to ease off. Smiling at her friend, she laughed. "You'd better stop blushing Tru, you won't be able to eat if you pass out."

"Well, stop teasing me then! Geez, if this mystery love of yours comes in, he might be jealous." Tru immediately regretted her words. Lindsay's face quickly became sad. "What's wrong? Please tell me! Is it about this person you love?"

Her friend simply nodded, saying nothing.

"Then why won't you tell me?" Lindsay said nothing, she just hung her head. Tru became downcast. "We used to tell each other everything. I thought we were friends. I thought you were my friend."

Lindsay's head snapped up. "We are friends! Tru, you are my best friend!"

"Then why won't you tell me? This is obviously bothering you! I can't stand to see you so sad. Please let me help you!"

Lindsay was about to give in when a sudden gust of wind blew and the vase holding the flower tipped over and broke against the table, pieces scattering. Taking this as a bad sign, "I… I can't!" Tears began to run down her face. "I'm sorry, I have to go."

As Tru watched her friend run out of the restaurant she yelled, "Lindsay!"

11:05 pm

Tru tried all day to find her friend. Apparently, she had called in sick for the remainder of the day. Now it was late in the evening and she had to give up soon, her shift at the morgue was coming up.

11:15 pm

Two figures could be seen just having exited a club. As they walked down the street, they could be heard having a very emotional exchange.

"But why? What's wrong? Is it me?" the first figure cried.

"No, it's not you. It's me.", the second figure winced, recognizing the ages-old brush-off line. It wasn't intended to sound like that, it was true.

"How many times have I heard that before! What did I do wrong?"

"It's not you! You're wonderful. I… care… about you a lot."

"But you don't love me."

The second figure was quiet. Head hung low. The second figure glanced over at the first, ashamed.

The first figure saw the look and it all suddenly clicked. "You're in love with someone else."

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean…"

The first figure simply started crying and tried to run away down the street.

"Wait!"

As the second figure almost caught up, the first figure turned down an alley. A gunshot rang out. The second figure froze in terror for a second before running down the alley. Voices could be heard.

"Who are you? Well, it doesn't matter. I can't have any witnesses. I'm sorry."

Lindsay ran down the alley, she heard the voices and saw a man holding a gun on the person she was running after. She saw the gun fire for the second time and the victim was blown back against the alley wall. Lindsay froze as she saw the murderer pocket the gun and run around the far corner of the alley.

Completely stunned by what she just witnessed, she walked slowly to the person she was chasing after. The person she just broke up with. The dead person. Kneeling down, Lindsay softly caressed her ex-lover's face. Crying quietly, "Oh my god Susan, I'm so sorry!"

11:20 pm

Tru was walking down the street where a row of bars and clubs were located. As she walked, she spotted Lindsay talking to a girl outside a local lesbian club. As Tru walked towards her friend, she overheard Lindsay…

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean…"

Tru saw the unknown girl take off crying. Lindsay took off after her. Not knowing what else to do, Tru ran after her best friend. Hoping she could help in some way. Tru saw the girl turn down an alley just before she heard a gunshot ring out. Lindsay stopped for a second before running after the girl. Tru turned on the speed and ran after Lindsay, yelling "Lindsay! Wait!"

Just before she got to the alley, Tru heard a second gunshot. Suddenly fearing for Lindsay's life, she turned the corner full speed and stopped suddenly when she saw Lindsay approach the girl, now lying dead upon the ground. She heard her best friend whisper, "Oh my god Susan, I'm so sorry! I did love you, I just love her more." Lindsay cried quietly.

Tru knelt beside her friend and put her arm around her. "Linds? Are you all right?"

Lindsay recoiled, shocked that Tru was kneeling there beside her. "Tru?" Seeing her best friend, and the scene before her, her emotional walls suddenly broke free. Lindsay leaned into her friend and cried.

Tru simply held her as her friend cried. Tru reached over with her free hand and took Lindsay's hand in her own, holding it tightly.

No sooner had Tru grabbed Lindsay's hand, Susan's dead hand shot out and grabbed the two hands holding each other.

Susan looked at Lindsay, "My love, help me!"

Lindsay screamed.

6:50 am (that morning)

Lindsay jumped up in bed screaming. Looking around, she saw she was in bed. "How did I get home? Must have been Tru, she's so wonderful… I wonder why I can't remember how I got home." Dismissing it as grief from the breakup the night before, she got out of bed. As she stood up, she heard the loud music coming from next door. "Man, don't they ever stop? That's two days in a row."

Walking into her kitchen, she set a pot of coffee on to brew. She wasn't looking forward to going into work today, especially after working her day off yesterday. Yesterday… what a horrible day. It started with her almost confessing her secret to Tru, and it ended up with her girlfriend getting killed after she broke up with her.

Susan. Her girlfriend. Ex-girlfriend. Dead-Ex-girlfriend. Lindsay dropped into the chair at her kitchen table. "Susan…" Lindsay started crying. Tears falling, she let her grief take over. No, she wasn't in love with Susan, but she did love her. She knew she was responsible for her death. If she hadn't broken up with her, she wouldn't have run and…

She wasn't in love with Susan, but she was in love. She felt ashamed. Here she was, feeling love for someone else, when Susan had just died because of her. She couldn't help how she felt though. Getting up, she grabbed her mug and poured herself a cup of coffee. Blowing on the hot liquid, she took a sip from her mug. Her mug. Her favorite coffee mug. Looking at the mug again, she saw that it was indeed her favorite mug, the one she broke yesterday. The one she broke when the phone rang and startled her.

The phone rang. Startled, she jumped, dropping her mug. It fell to the floor and smashed. Just like yesterday. Maybe it was a different mug? She remembered putting the broken pieces of the mug in the trash, which she hadn't taken out yet. Looking quickly in the trash, the broken mug wasn't there.

The phone continued to ring. Picking up the receiver hesitantly, "Hello?"

"Lindsay, I'm really sorry to be calling you this early on your day off, but Elisa called in sick, I need you to come in today."

Lindsay's eyes opened wide. Those were the exact words he said yesterday. "Um, Ok."

"Thanks a lot Lindsay, you're the best." {click}

The phone call, he said it was her day off today. The broken Mug? The music next door? Was it a premonition? Time travel? Strange coincidence? She had to find out if Susan was ok. Picking up the phone, she dialed Susan's phone number.

"Hello?"

"Susan! Are you all right?"

"Lindsay? Of course I'm all right baby. I had this real sexy dream about you last night. Are we still meeting up for drinks tonight?"

"Uhm… yea."

"Good, I can't wait. I love you."

"Bye." Maybe it was all a dream. Looking at the clock, she saw that it was 7:30. She had just enough time to go see Tru.

8:02 am

As she entered her friend's apartment, she walked hesitantly over to Tru's bed. She was sleeping. Not making any sound, she stood there looking at her beautiful best friend. Whispering, "Oh Tru. I wish I could tell you how…"

"Lindsay!" Tru exclaimed as she sat up suddenly in bed. Startled, Lindsay yelped and jumped back. Tru suddenly remembered, the day rewound. Lindsay had asked her a question yesterday, quickly trying to remember the question so her friend wouldn't realize something was wrong, she searched her memory and remembered. It was about the key. "If I move it, how…" Tru trailed off when she saw the confusion on her friend's face. "What did you say?"

"Nothing."

Lindsay was confused. * Tru started to say the same thing she said yesterday, or today, whatever. She must not remember it! I must have gone back in time! I've got super powers! * Lindsay smiled to herself. * Should I keep things going like they were yesterday? But… if I do things the same way, Susan will die again. * Lindsay became sad.

Tru saw the conflicting emotions run across her friend's face, happiness, sadness. "Are you all right Linds?"

Lindsay decided things really didn't need to change until her encounter with Susan. She decided to keep things the same until tonight and hopefully she could save Susan. With the exception of with Susan, things turned out pretty well yesterday, she saw no need to risk it. "Fine, oh, by the way… When are you going to move the key from under your doormat?" It wasn't exactly the same question but it was close enough.

"If I move it, how will you find it to get in?"

"I'd much rather knock than see anything bad happen to you." Lindsay whispered.

Tru felt very happy that her best friend cared so much about her well being. But she needed to continue, "At least I might get some then."

"I'm sorry Tru. How long has it been?"

"Too long."

"You need someone in your life Tru. You need someone who cares about you… Cares for you. Someone who loves you and you can love back." Lindsay's voice was full of emotion. She tried to lighten the moment, "At least you have a cute friend who brings you breakfast sometimes." A twinkle in her eyes.

Tru's eyes were watering with the emotion she heard in her friend's voice. She crawled over on the bed and gathered her friend in a tight hug. "No, I have a beautiful best friend who is simply too good for me. You're a damn good woman Linds." Tru pulled back and looked into her friend's eyes. Her need to continue the discussion she had yesterday made her continue, it was the same conversation, but different this time. "You know Linds, you take care of me, you feed me…" Tru began to rub her friend's arms lightly as she continued, "You know, I really should start dating you."

The way Tru was talking, running her hands along her arms, almost like she was caressing her, made Lindsay's breath start to quicken. "At least then I'd know you were dating someone cute."

"I'd be dating someone beautiful."

Lindsay's breath suddenly caught in her throat. The look Tru was giving her almost looked like love! Lindsay suddenly felt herself leaning closer to Tru, her breath coming in short gasps. She looked into Tru's eyes and saw her friend's eyes were closed as she herself was leaning closer. Lindsay closed her eyes and tried to prepare herself for the kiss that was coming… closer… closer… Suddenly an image popped into Lindsay's mind of Susan. She was lying dead on the cold pavement… Jumping back, she got off Tru's bed, the moment broken.

"Lindsay…"

"No, it's all right, I um… have to go. Eat your breakfast."

"We still meeting for lunch?"

"Yea, I guess so." Lindsay practically ran out of the room.

Tru thought about what just happened. Things this time around were the same, yet completely different. She didn't almost kiss her friend yesterday. Kissed! She almost kissed Lindsay! She had never before even considered being with another woman. But now, she couldn't seem to get her friend off her mind. She remembered how soft she was, how pink and inviting her lips looked. Like she had a few minutes ago, she felt the desire to find out exactly what those lips tasted like.

She shouldn't be feeling this way! Certainly, her friend was gay. But she was dating someone else. Susan. The woman who was killed. Tru remembered the conversation she had the previous day…

Flashback:

End Flashback:

* * *

* Lindsay said she was going to break it off! If Susan was in love with Lindsay, that's probably why she ran away! I can understand why, If I was in love with Lindsay, it would kill me to hear she didn't want to be with me…*

" … I'm in love…"

"Oh my god!"

"…I'm in love with someone else…"

"Lindsay's in love…"

"…At least then I'd know you were dating someone cute…"

"…I'd be dating someone beautiful..."

"…I love you too Tru..."

"No… it can't be… can it? Stop! Don't go there. I just have to figure out a way to stop Susan from getting killed. This isn't for me. This is for Susan and Lindsay. I don't matter."

12:15 pm

All morning, Tru tried to put together the entire sequence of events that happened the night before. She tried once more to run the sequence of events through her head…

She saw Lindsay outside the club, apologizing to Susan. * Because of the breakup? *

Susan ran away crying. * Understandable. *

Lindsay chased after Susan. * Because Lindsay is such a sweet girl. *

I run after Lindsay.

Susan runs into the alley. * Bad move girl. *

A gunshot.

* First gunshot. Was someone shot? Who was shot? *

Lindsay runs into the alley.

A gunshot.

* Second shot. Probably Susan. Lindsay might have seen who shot her. It’s too bad she won’t remember. *

I run into the alley to see Lindsay crying over her lover.

* I know Lindsay didn't shoot her. The first shot was before Lindsay even entered the alley. Plus there's the fact that Lindsay won't even pick up a gun. *

Pulling up a picture of the scene in her head, Tru looks around and remembers a body slumped against the other side of the alley. It was a well dressed woman, late 20's, with an orange hanky sticking out of her jacket. * It's a damn good thing I have a photographic memory. I wouldn't have remembered that otherwise. *

* Well, the woman was well dressed, wearing a suit. She looked like a businesswoman. I think the first thing I should do is check out the alley again. I have to meet up with Lindsay first. Maybe I can find out something from her. Maybe Susan has someone mad enough at her to kill her. *

* * *

12:50 pm

Tru walked to the outdoor restaurant for her lunch with Lindsay. As she got to their table, she noticed Lindsay was not there. * Hmmm, I guess I'm early for once. * Tru laughed to herself. Sitting down, she heard a gasp.

"Tru?"

Turning around, she saw her best friend, just standing there, staring at her. "Yeah Linds… Is something wrong?"

"What are you doing here?" * Tru was late yesterday. What does this mean? Did I change things? *

"Lindsay, we were supposed to meet for lunch, right?"

"Well, yea… but you're… early!"

Tru just giggled at her friend. "Well, gee… thanks Linds. I can be on time once in a while you know."

Lindsay realized how it sounded. "Yea, but it's so uncommon, you nearly gave me a heart attack!" Lindsay put her hand on her chest to demonstrate and laughed.

"Oh you…" Tru frowned in mock anger. "Besides, sometimes I get tired running everywhere."

"I'm sure you do, but it does keep you in fiiine shape." Running her eyes over Tru’s body.

This time Tru blushed under the praise. "You think so?"

"Tru, all that running you did in college kept you nice and toned, you're in terrific shape. You're beautiful."

Tru put her hand on Lindsay's. "Thanks Linds, you're sweet. But you should stop flirting with me. What if this person you love happens to show up?"

* She already did. *

Lindsay said nothing but hung her head.

Squeezing her hand, "Lindsay, you're my best friend and I love you. I wish you would tell me what's bothering you. It hurts to see you in pain."

"I wish I could. I almost told you when I saw you yesterday but…" * The vase broke * Lindsay trailed off, suddenly afraid that Tru would find out that she knew what was going to happen. * The last thing I need is for Tru to think I'm a freak and run away from me in terror. *

"Lindsay, yesterday? I didn't see you yesterday…" Tru suddenly stopped. She DID see Lindsay yesterday… the other ‘today’. * Lindsay did look like she was about to say something when the vase broke. But how would she remember? *

Both girls were busy thinking about what was going on when a sudden gust of wind blew. Without thinking, both girls reached forward and grabbed the vase before it could fall. Lindsay simply held the vase in her hand, her eyes wide, as Tru's hand covered her own.

"How did you know…"

"… the vase would fall?"

* * *

1:45 pm

"So, let me get this right. Dead people ask you for help, and you go back in time to save them."

"Uhm… right."

Without saying another word, Lindsay pulled out her cell phone and dialed. As she listened to it ring…

"Uh… Lindsay? Who are you calling?" Tru was afraid of whom Lindsay was calling. Last thing she needed was to appear on the six o'clock news.

"Work, I'm calling in sick for the rest of the day. I think I need a drink."

* * *

2:00 pm

After lunch was taken care of, Lindsay and Tru went back to Lindsay's place, which was just down the block. Lindsay suddenly realized something. "Tru, if you remember what happened before… then you know about…"

"Susan? Yea, I know." Tru seemed bothered by this.

Lindsay saw the hurt in Tru's eyes, "Are you freaked?"

"Freaked?" This confused the brunette.

"About me being… gay."

"Yes! Well, no… Yes… Sorta." * Well, that was clear. *

"If you want me to stay away from you, I will." Lindsay whispered. Tears starting to run down her face as she thought she was losing her best friend and person she loved most in this world.

Tru saw Lindsay's pain, realizing what her best friend thought; she sat next to her best friend, put her arms around her and hugged her. Moving her face up to Lindsay's, she kissed some of the tears away. Lindsay simply put her arms around Tru, buried her face in Tru's neck and cried her pain.

"Lindsay, sweetie, I'm not upset because you’re gay."

Lindsay's tear-soaked face pulled up and looked into Tru's eyes, hope filling her expression. "You're not?"

Tru laughed softly, "Of course not!"

Wiping her face with her hands, "Then why?"

"I'm upset because you got yourself a girlfriend and didn't bother to tell me about it!" Tru laughed.

Lindsay laughed with delight as she realized she didn't lose her best friend, and hugged Tru fiercely.

* * *

3:00 pm

Tru filled Lindsay in on what she remembered about the businesswoman from the alley. It came as no surprise that Lindsay didn't remember her; she was otherwise occupied after all.

As they approached the alley where the murders occurred, Tru stopped and took Lindsay's hand, causing the other girl to turn and look at her. "Linds, are you sure you want to do this?"

Steeling her resolve, Lindsay got a determined look on her face. "Yes."

"I just mean, it's bound to be painful. I can go down there alone."

"Tru, I want to. Besides, she's not dead yet." Squeezing Tru's hand, she smiled at her. "We have to do this, to save Susan and the businesswoman right?"

"Right."

They moved into the alley, looking down at the spot where Susan died, she remembered her best friend holding her dead lover in her arms, crying. Tru looked at Lindsay. Wiping the tears away from her eyes, Lindsay was staring at the spot, she was obviously remembering. Tru put her arm around her best friend. "Are you ok?"

Wiping away the fresh tears, "Yea. I'm fine."

"Did you see where the killer came from?"

"No, when I got here, he was standing there, pointing the gun at Susan."

Tru looked over at the other wall and noticed a door. It was right next to the door that the businesswoman was killed. "The businesswoman died over there. Maybe she came out of that door?"

Walking around to the street, they saw that the door in the alley exited from a bank. "Businesswoman… Bank… Makes sense to me." Upon entering the bank, Tru saw that it was a small branch office.  It only had two tellers and a few desks in the back. The bank was almost empty, only one teller (male) and a woman sitting at a desk in the back. As Tru approached the woman at the desk, the picture in her head of the dead businesswoman snapped into focus. The girl before her was the same one. She even had an orange hanky in her lapel. Quickly looking at her desk, she saw… "Mary Ligget – Loan Officer" Tru whispered to Lindsay, "That's the girl who was killed first. I remember the hanky."

Looking at the hanky, Lindsay whispered back, "God, I see what you mean, how could you forget THAT ugly thing? That hanky sticks out like a sore thumb."

The woman approached with a wide grin on his face, "Good morning ladies! Is there something I can help you with?"

Tru spoke first, "This may sound a little weird, but when was the last time this bank was robbed?"

The woman simply laughed, "This branch has never been robbed. This branch may look small but we have a state-of-the-art security system. I can assure you that your money will be perfectly safe here. Can I help you set up an account? Will you two ladies need a… joint… account?"

Lindsay glanced hopefully at Tru, but Tru missed it.

"No thank you. I was just curious."

"Well, if there's anything you need, just come and see me. My name's Mary."

"Thanks, we will."

Walking away, Tru was bumped into by a man that seemed to be in quite a hurry. Not even stopping to apologize, he approached Ms. Ligget.

"Excuse me." Tru whispered sarcastically.

"Hey!" Lindsay exclaimed, angry that the man was so rude to her friend. Turning to look at the man, Lindsay was about to approach the man to give him a piece of her mind when she stopped and took a few faltering steps back.

Tru saw Lindsay look at the man. Lindsay paled until she was as white as a sheet. Seeing Lindsay stumble back, "Linds, what's wrong?"

Grabbing her friend's arm, she whispered strongly, "That's him!"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes!"

"Stay here." Tru discreetly approached, trying to overhear their conversation.

"What the hell is this?" The man exclaimed, waving an envelope. He seemed very pissed off.

"I'm sorry Mr. Holt but your loan was declined. You simply don't have enough assets."

"What the hell do you mean declined! This is the fifth bank I tried! That's exactly what those bastards at the First City Bank down the street said!"

"Thomas, I'm very sorry but…"

"Don't 'Thomas' me! If I don't get that money, my wife will die!"

"I'm sorry but there's nothing I can do."

"You're sorry," the man spat out, "If my wife dies, you will be sorry. I guarantee it."

As the man stormed out of the bank, Tru watched him leave before taking off after him. Catching up to him on the street, "Excuse me, Mr. Holt?"

Lindsay approached the pair, while she was very scared to see the man that murdered Susan, she was in awe of Tru. Here was a murderer, and Tru doesn't seem afraid at all, she even runs after him!

"Who the hell are you?" The man spat out, looking from Tru to the other scared girl.

"My name is Tru, and this is my friend Lindsay. I'm sorry but we overheard you talking to Ms. Ligget in the bank."

"Yeah, what of it?"

"Your wife…"

“That’s none of your business!” The man spat out, turning away.

“But sir…”

“Leave me alone!”

Tru didn’t know what else to do if the man wouldn’t even talk to them. While she was thinking, Lindsay approached the man.

“Sir, please. We only want to help. Your wife is sick?" Lindsay began softly. She suddenly wasn't afraid any more. “What’s your wife’s name?”

Mr. Holt's face softened, "Maggie. She’s dying. She has Heart Arrythmia. If I don't get some medicine to her soon, she'll die. I don’t have enough money for the medicine, and none of the banks will give me a loan! She’s gotten a lot worse. I’ve never seen her this bad. She’s not expected to live the night without medicine.” The man was in tears.

Lindsay put her hand on the man's arm, "What’s the medication that she needs? Maybe we can help."

Tru was in awe of her friend. She was amazed how quickly she got him to open up when he was so belligerent just a few minutes earlier. Tru began to see her friend in a new light.

"It's called Cardizem. But how can you help?"

Tru spoke up, "I work for a medical office and I might be able to get it. If we can get the medicine, will you promise to stay with her until we can get it to you?"

"Yes! Please, I love her so much, I don't want to lose her!"

"Just tell us where you live."

4:15 pm

Tru had gotten the medicine from Davis, and she and Lindsay were on their way to the man’s apartment. “I think we have enough time Linds, Ms. Ligget wasn’t killed until late tonight. That probably means Mr. Holt’s wife didn’t die until late.”

“I hope you’re right Tru. Let’s hurry anyway.” Pressing her foot on the gas, they sped on their way.

4:30 pm

Knocking on the door, Tru yelled “Mr. Holt? Mr. Holt!”

The door opened quickly, “Do you have it?”

Tru handed the medicine to the man, who turned and ran into his bedroom, leaving the door open. Walking into the apartment hesitantly, they moved over to the bedroom.

“Maggie? Honey? Take these. They’ll make you feel better.”

Tru and Lindsay watched as the sick, bedridden woman swallowed the pills, and drank a few sips of the water her husband handed her. Lying back with a sigh, the woman looked at the two girls standing in the doorway. “Who… who… are you?” she gasped.

“Honey, these girls gave me your pills. My paycheck hasn’t cleared yet and I couldn’t afford them.”

The woman smiled at the girls and whispered “Thank you.”

“Sleep now darling. You’ll be fine.” Caressing the woman’s face, he motioned for the two girls to follow him out.

“I don’t know how to thank you.” The man was in tears as he hugged both girls. “I’ll pay you back.”

“Don’t worry about it Mr. Holt. My department has an overstock of medication and we can just write it off. We’re just glad we could help.”

“At least give me your address so we can send you flowers or something.”

"Don't worry about it. It's not important."

Lindsay took Mr. Holt's hand, "Just take care of your wife."

"I will. Thank you."

As the girls left, Thomas Holt looked down at the business card Lindsay had pressed into his hand and smiled fondly.

6:15 pm – Tru's apartment

“Tru, it’s hard to believe that was the same man that would have murdered two people. He seemed so nice.”

“Yea. But I’ve seen that even very good people are capable of terrible acts if they get desperate enough.”

“So, since you saved his wife…” Lindsay started but was interrupted by Tru.

“ ‘We’ ”

“Huh?”

“ ‘We’saved his wife.”

“I didn’t do anything. You’re the one that got him the medicine. I didn’t do anything.”

“Lindsay. You’re the one that spotted the guy. It would have taken me much longer to find him. You’re the one who got him to immediately open up. He was only pissed off at me.” Tru put her arms around the other girl and hugged her tightly. “You were wonderful Linds. Face it. You’re a hero.”

Lindsay hugged Tru back tightly. “Only because I was with you. I’m nothing special.”

Tru pulled back, still holding the girl tightly with one arm, she moved her other hand up and softly caressed Lindsay’s cheek. “Lindsay. Look at me.”

Lindsay lifted her eyes and looked into Tru’s. She loved this girl so much, tears started to fall.

“Lindsay? Have I ever lied to you?”

“No. You never lie.”

“Then you’ll believe me when I say, You are special. You’re more than special. You’re wonderful, amazing, caring…”

“Tru…” Lindsay simply couldn’t handle being this close to Tru. Her brain was already short-circuiting. She could feel Tru’s warm breath against her face.

“… funny, compassionate…”

“Tru…” Lindsay’s breath was coming in gasps. She could take her eyes off the girl’s lips. She knew if she didn’t get away, she would kiss her very soon.

“… beautiful…” Tru was totally unaware of the effect she was having on the other girl.

”Tru please!”

“… And you're totally sexy.” Tru finalized in a low sexy drawl.

Hearing those final words in that low sexy voice, Moaning, Lindsay couldn't hold back any longer. Leaning in, she pressed her lips against Tru's.

Tru's brain stopped dead. Tru's thoughts usually never stop. There were always things running through her head. But the instant her best friend's lips touched her own, Tru found herself without a single thought. For several moments, Tru just stood there, stunned. She heard Lindsay moan again and felt the other girl's tongue slip past her lips. Her brain suddenly started working again… although it came in fragments… * Lindsay… Lips… soft… kissing… wonderful! *

Lindsay was a slave to the moment. She wanted nothing more at that moment than to feel Tru's lips against her own. For several moments, she kissed the other girl, simply experiencing the kiss like a man dying of thirst experiences a glass of water. As she slipped her tongue in the other girl's mouth, she heard the softest whimper from Tru and felt her tongue lightly brush against her own. Feeling the other girl's tongue was like a shock to her system. * I'm kissing Tru! What have I done? *

Breaking away from the kiss, Lindsay simply looked at Tru with fear in her eyes. Fear of how Tru would respond.

Tru was confused. Sure, she loved Lindsay; she probably loved her more than anyone else on earth, family included. But what just happened was far beyond that. She remembered the kiss that just occurred moments ago. Something about the kiss reminded her of high school, and she couldn’t figure out why. She never kissed a girl before. She remembered the softness of Lindsay's lips, the passion of the kiss. She wanted more but she needed to understand what was going on. She was just too confused.

Frowning, "Lindsay, what…"

Lindsay saw the frown and immediately started crying, thinking she not only ruined the best friendship she ever had, but had just alienated the love of her life. "I'm sorry Tru! I'm so sorry!" Tearing herself from Tru's grasp, she ran out the door.

Still stunned from the kiss, Tru watched as Lindsay ran away. As she saw the girl running, she suddenly felt as if a piece of her heart was ripped from her body. She had to get it back.

Running down to the street, Tru just stopped as she saw Lindsay's car speed away.

11:10 pm

Tru approached the club where Lindsay was the night before. She was hoping she would catch Lindsay here tonight as she did last night. Stopping a short distance away, she saw Lindsay and Susan exit the club and listened to their conversation.

Lindsay had been putting it off, walking out of the club with Susan, she couldn't put it off any longer. "Susan, I have to tell you something."

"Sure baby, what is it?"

"It isn't going to work."

"What?" Fear suddenly tearing at her heart.

"Us. I can't do this any more."

"You're breaking up with me? But why? What's wrong? Is it me?"

"No, it's not you. I care about you a lot. And I do love you…"

"But you're not in love with me."

Lindsay was quiet. Head hung low. She glanced over at Susan, ashamed.

Susan saw the look and it all suddenly made sense. "You're in love with someone else."

"It’s Tru.”

“What’s true?” Misunderstanding the statement.

“I love her. I’ve loved her for years.”

Tru heard her best friend’s admission of love for her and smiled. Her heart suddenly swelled with love. She was in love. She was in love with Lindsay.

Lindsay saw the tears on Susan’s face, “I'm so sorry! I didn't mean…"

Susan simply started crying and ran away down the street.

"Wait! Susan!" Running after the girl, Lindsay saw her turn down the alley. It was all happening again. Without hesitation, she ran down the alley after her.

Lindsay saw Susan stop in the middle of the alley, turn around and screamed back at Lindsay at the other end of the alley. "I hate you!"

As she heard the scream, Lindsay stopped in terror as she watched a car barrel down from the other end of the alley straight at Susan. She watched in slow motion as Mary Liggett exit the side door of the bank, saw the car coming and threw herself at Susan, throwing them both out of the way.

Susan was safe. Susan hated her. Tru hated her. The only two people she had ever loved were gone from her life. Forever. As she watched the car speed towards her, she didn't bother to move. As she closed her eyes, a single tear fell.

"NO!"

Lindsay barely registered the scream when she felt someone barrel into her from the side, throwing them out of the way of the car. Her breath knocked out of her, she gasped and looked up at the body lying on top of her. It was Tru.

Tru jumped off of Lindsay, yanking the other girl to her feet, she was very angry. "What the hell is your problem! You tell me you're in love with me and then you try to kill yourself?"

"You should have just let me die."

"Why? Do you hate me that much?" Tears were flowing down Tru's cheek, sobbing, "You make me fall in love with you and then you try to tear it away from me? Are you trying to kill me?" Tru rushed at Lindsay, throwing her arms around the other girl, "I love you so much! You can't leave me. I love you. I love you…" Tru's voice just disintegrated into sobs.

Lindsay just held the other girl for a moment. Cupping Tru's face in her hands, "Tru… I thought you hated me. You love me?"

"Hate you? I love you so much, I can't live without you!" Tru needed to show her. Pressing her face to the other girl's, her lips found Lindsay's and desperately kissed the other girl.

Lindsay pulled back, looked deep in her new love's eyes and whispered, "I love you Tru."

7:50 am – a week later.

Tru was awoken by a pair of incredibly soft lips, gabbing the owner of those lips, she pulled her into the bed as the other girl giggled. "Good morning my love."

As Lindsay giggled, Tru rolled on top of her girlfriend and kissed her passionately.

Breaking away breathless, Lindsay got out of bed, "I have something for you."

Tru bounced out of bed excited, "For me? What?"

Lindsay handed her two dozen roses.

"Awww… Lindsay! You shouldn't have! That's so sweet! I love you so much. They're beautiful." Kissing the girl again passionately.

"I'd really love to take credit, especially giving the 'thank you', but these aren't from me. They're from Maggie and Thomas Holt."

"How did they…"

"I gave them my card before we left. I hope you don't mind."

"No, I don't mind. I'm just upset that I paid you a 'thank you' for something you didn't do."

"What? Do you want your 'thank you' back?"

"Definitely."

Lindsay put her arms around Tru and kissed her passionately, their tongues dueling for several long minutes. "Oh my… I think I paid you back too much… you're just going to have to give me my change back."

"Who knew doing business was this much fun?" Leaning in again.

"Oh! That reminds me! Remember that businesswoman banker we saved?"

" 'Mary Ligget' wasn't it?"

"Yea, I love your memory." Lindsay drawled as she kissed Tru's cheek. "Well, turns out, she's dating Susan. I guess Susan was VERY grateful to her for saving her life."

Tru laughed, "You see… it all worked out."

"Yes it did. You got yourself a wonderful girlfriend, and I got the girl I've been in love with since high school."

"Since high school? Really?"

"Do you remember Bobby Stanclift's party Junior year?"

Tru smiled, "Yea, I had such a crush on him. You two were friends, that's why I became friends with you… to get closer to him. It never did work out with him though. At least I got to kiss him during that party. It was sooo hot! But I never did figure out why he wanted me blind-folded before he'd kiss me."

Lindsay backed away slowly, "Are you sure it was him?" Lindsay smiled seductively at her lover.

Tru saw the look in her lover's eyes and gasped, "That was you?!?!" Lindsay just giggled. "You French kissed me in high school! Oh my god!" Tru chased after Lindsay, "You are so gonna pay for that!"

The End.
