Summary: An alternate to Grace. My version. First thing i've written in 2 months. My friend gave me the bunny for it, god bless her.
"It feels like i've been on this ship for weeks. I've seen a lot of crazy things in my time at the SGC but never my friends who are supposed to be millions of miles away. Jonas says that he's me or i'm him or something. I never understood him at the best of times."
"My head hurts again. I guess their isn't an all night pharmacy around these parts."
"I just spoke to my dad. He said i deserve to love somebody and be loved in return."
"He's right!"
Sam heard a voice from behind her. She was still sitting in the mess hall where she had made her last log entry. Sam could make her out, a slender figure in the doorway, easily recognisable as she moved into view.
"Shelley!"
"What, you were expecting someone else. My brother perhaps?"
Sam shook her head.
"No! I just wasn't expecting you."
"Why not?"
The major didn't say anything and lowered her head, craddeling it in her hands. Shelley moved into the room at sat on the exact same seat Jacob had sat on an hour or so before.
"You should listen to your father, he's telling you the truth. Or your telling yourself the truth."
Sam looked up slowly, sighing.
"Don't you start too. I've gotten enough of that from Jonas."
Shelley smiled. Her green eyes sparkled under the lights of the mess hall. Sam's visions always seemed real. But this one was the most vivid. She could actually smell Shelley's perfume or the shampoo she used.
"You should love somone, let yourself be loved by someone." Shelley whispered.
"I can't!"
"Yes you can. You're just afraid."
Shelley looked at her, reached up her hand and lighly brushed her hand against the blonde's cheek.
"Never be afraid to love somone Sam. Or even to show them. Don't deny yourself what you want, because your're afraid."
"Then in a second she was gone. I've missed her."
"I'm never gonna get off this ship."
Sam had been sitting playing with the little girl for a while. It had been fun. Distracting her from the pounding that was going on inside her head. Then he had appeared, larger than life and twice as annoying. Well, in Sam's eyes anyway.
"As long as I'm thinking about you, setting my sights on what I think is unobtainable, there's no chance of being hurt by someone else." Sam said.
Jack shook his head.
"Jacob was right. You deserve more. I will always be there for you, no matter what. Believe me. But you know that i'm not who you want. I'm not the one who makes you smile every time you see me or think about me." Jack said.
Sam shook her head.
"It's true, Carter. Deep down you know it. Otherwise I wouldn't be telling it to you."
"So what do i do now?: She asked.
"Go save your ass. And take a chance."
"Before i do."
Sam shifted her position and leaned over to where Jack had been sitting. But he wasn't sitting there any longer. She was sitting there, Shelley. Her red hair swept across her shoulders, pouting red lips and green eyes. Sam brushed the hair from her face, pulling her into a soft but heated kiss. Shelley responded as Sam had always hoped.
Then it was over.... And she was back sitting against the wall.
Sam's eye's fluttered open, again. She'd already woken a few hours before but had drifted off to sleep after her conversation with Jack. She'd dreamed a wonderful dream. A sense of calm and love had come over her and she smiled as she noticed a redhead sitting on the empty bed next to her.
"Hey, sleeping beauty." Shelley said, an almost laughing tone in her voice.
"Hey yourself." Sam replied, managing a smile.
"We thought we'd have to get Jonas to give you a kiss to wake you up."
Sam shook her head slowly.
"He's really not my type."
Shelley looked away, blushing for a moment.
"Well," she said. "I just came down to see if you were okay, and you are. I'd better get back to work."
Shelley stepped off the bed. Sam reached out her hand, managing to grab Shelley's before she had a chance to move away.
"Why don't after i get out of here i take you out for that drink i keep forgetting to ask you to go on."
"You mean like a...."
"If you want!" Sam said.
Her time on the Prometheus had taught her a thing or two. Well apparently it was nothing she didn't already know.
Sam's heart pounded as she waited for Shelley's response. A small smile appeared on the redhead's lips.
"I'd like that."
Their hands stayed locked together for a moment, finger's entwined then Shelley moved back towards Sam. She leaned down and planted a kiss on the blonde's forehead. Without saying another word, Shelley left the infirmary.
Sam watched her, and smiled. After all this time, she had come to terms with the fact that it had never been 'him' but always 'her'
The beginning :D
