Summary: One of Shelley’s worst nightmares comes trye.

Warnings: None

There was no reason for her to be there. She just felt she had to. She had heard the base's alarm go off and just wondered what was wrong. There was no one telling her that she couldn't go. The people she cared for most in the world were in the front line. So who was gonna stop her?

Shelley followed several members of sg6 to the infirmary, on a hunch. She saw Jack standing in the doorway. He knew she'd make her way there eventually. The redheads stopped half way down the corridor that same familiar look in his eye's he'd had before. 'NO' She shouted to herself inside. 'Not again.' Her constant fear had always been that she would lose someone she loved, again.

Her feet began to move again, all be it slower than they had done when she had heard the sirens. As she got to the door, Jack reached out his arm, stopping her from going inside. He couldn't even bring himself to look at her. Not after the last time.

She looked around the room, seeing her lying on a bed a few feet away, nurses and Janet watching over her. Despite what was going on, the whole room seemed deadly quiet. Finally she managed to break free from her brother and entered the room. Janet looked up at her, a loss at what to say. She just simply shook her head and shrugged her shoulders. Only those closest to them knew of their relationship, so Janet ushered people away, letting Shelley sit at her side.

Shelley had sat there for four hours, just waiting. No one said anything to her as they went about checking on her.

"So, just because I didn't give you the blue jello at lunch, you're going to give me the silent treatment."

She knew it was a bad joke but who was going to tell her otherwise.

"Still not in the mood for talking eh. Well I ain't got anywhere else to go. Cassie's looking after Mia, so you've got my full and undivided attention. Why do you say about going dancing? You and me on the dance floor, some slow music. Maybe dinner afterwards? Pick up some ice cream on the way home and fall asleep watching that dreadful soap opera you keep getting me to record when you’re away. Anything would be better than this. Better than only having a part of you here. You don't know how much the last six months has meant to me. How much you mean to me. I know it's been hard for you. What with what I went through with Cecily. But you got me through it, because you loved me. God, I sound like a Celine Dion song. Not that I know what some of her stuff sounds like."

Shelley smiled to herself.

"It doesn't matter. The sentiment's still there."

She leaned forward a little, moving her stool closer to the bed. Her hand reached out, brushing the back of her hand against her face.

"Don't leave me. Don't leave me to cope on my own. I need you. I need you by my side. I...."

They hadn't said it many times in the last few weeks. It just didn't need to be said. Both of them knew how the other felt.

"I.... I love you," Shelley said. Looking away as she said it.

But a voice made her look back.

"I love you too."

Her eyes looked down, seeing Sam's eyes opening. Her voice was croaky, just barely recognizable. But Shelley had heard. Heard those three words that made her believe everything would be okay now.
