Chapter One

Brooke was at cheerleading practice with Popita, Nicole, and Mary Cherry.

“So where’s your girlfriend?” Nicole asked Brooke. “I thought you said she was coming here to watch you practice.”

“She’s just running a little late,” Brooke said. She had been dating Sam for two weeks now. “She’ll be here.”

“I still don’t know what you see in her,” Nicole said. “She looks like a stray dog.”

“She has no fashion sense whatsoever,” Popita agreed.

“I think you should try to get her to dress better,” Mary Cherry said. “You don’t want her to make you look bad do ya?”

“Sam’s her own person and I love that about her,” Brooke said. “She’s fine the way she is. Why do you guys always have something mean to say about her?”

“She’s a slanderous bitch,” Nicole said. “The school newspaper needs a new editor.”

“It does not,” Sam said as she walked up to the group of girls.

“Hey baby,” Brooke smiled.

“Hey, sorry I’m late,” Sam gave Brooke a kiss on the lips.

Nicole, Mary Cherry, and Popita made gagging motions with their hands at the sight of Sam and Brooke kissing.

“Oh, you left this in my room,” Brooke went over to her backpack and pulled out Sam’s necklace.

“Thanks,” Sam smiled. “I thought I lost it. Lily’s suppose to be tutoring me in math so I better go. I’ll call you, okay?”

“I’ll be waiting,” Brooke said.

After Sam left the gym Nicole snapped. “You’ll be waiting? You’re making it sound like you’re going to be sitting by the phone like an idiot.”

“You’re not suppose to make her think she owns you,” Popita said.

“Oh dear lord, Sam McPherson has Brooke on a short leash,” Mary Cherry said.

“She does not,” Brooke rolled her eyes. “I am not whipped. Sam doesn’t boss me around. Chill guys.”

“I have a question,” Mary Cherry said to Brooke. “How did Sam manage to leave her necklace in your room?”

“It just fell off I guess,” Brooke answered.

“Right, and I’m wearing ten dollar shoes,” Nicole said sarcastically.

“I know what you guys are thinking,” Brooke said. “But me and Sam haven’t done anything physical.”

“Then how did her necklace end up in your room?” Popita asked.

“Cause she was in my room,” Brooke answered. “But we were just talking. Can we finish our routine please.”

The girls got back into their routine but they would bring this subject up again.

Sam and Lily were in Sam’s kitchen going over their math homwork.

“Do you get how to do everything now?” Lily asked.

“Yeah, thanks,” Sam said. “I owe you.”

“So where’s Brooke?” Lily asked.

“Cheerleading practice,” Sam answered. “Why?”

“Just asking,” Lily said. “You guys are getting pretty serious.”

“Is that a bad thing?” Sam asked.

“No, it’s a great thing. It’s just that Harrison was talking earlier and he thinks you two have… you know. And me and Carmen don’t think you have,” Lily explained.

“I can’t believe you guys are talking about my sex life,” Sam said in shock.

“We aren’t,” Lily said. “It just kind of came up in our discussion.”

“And what were you discussing?” Sam asked.

“The discovery channel. There was an episode about-,” Lily replied.

“I don‘t wanna know,” Sam cut Lily off. “Me and Brooke haven’t done anything beyond making out. You can let Harrison and Carmen know that.”

“Hey girls,” Jane said walking into the kitchen. “What are you two up to?”

“I’m just helping Sam with her math,” Lily said. “She’s pretty bad at it.”

“Hey,” Sam said. “I’m not that bad at it. I’m mediocre.”

“No honey, you’re not,” Jane said.

Sam pouted and sat back in her chair. “Well, Brooke thinks I’m smart, so ha!”

“I never said you weren’t smart,” Jane said.

“You just suck at math,” Lily finished for her.

“And speaking of Brooke,” Jane said. “When do I get to meet her?”

“Uh… never?” Sam replied.

“Sam, I want to meet her,” Jane said.

“No,” Sam shook her head.

“Come on Sam, it won’t be that bad,” Lily said. “I’m sure your mom will like Brooke.”

“I don’t want her telling Brooke embarrassing things about me,” Sam said.

“I won’t,” Jane said. “Ask her over for dinner tomorrow.”

“Alright,” Sam gave in. “But if she says no I can’t force her to come.”

“Okay, but don’t talk her out of coming,” Jane said.

“I won’t,” Sam said.

“Do you wanna go to Carmen’s place?” Lily asked. “I think Harrison’s over there with her now.”

“Sure, let’s go,” Sam said. “Bye mom.”

“Behave yourself and don’t forget you still have homework to do,” Jane said as Sam left the kitchen.

Sam, Harrison, Lily, and Carmen were in Carmen’s room talking.

“I’m still surprised you’re dating Brooke,” Harrison said. “She’s like your total opposite and you guys hated each other.”

“Things change,” Sam said. “And thanks again for not turning psycho about it. I know you have… or had a crush on her.”

‘It’s alright,” Harrison said. “You and Brooke make a hotter couple anyway.”

“Sam wanted me to let you guys know she and Brooke haven’t done the dirty yet,” Lily said. “And she doesn’t appreciate us talking about her personal life.”

“You haven’t?” Harrison asked. “I thought for sure you two would’ve gotten horizontal by now.”

“Harrison!” Sam slapped Harrison on the arm.

“I agree with Harrison,” Carmen said. “You and Brooke seem pretty close.”

“We have a mental connection,” Sam said. “You three perverts need to get a hobby.”

“How ‘bout we change the subject?” Lily asked.

“We should all go see that new horror movie tonight,” Harrison said.

“I’m in,” Carmen said. “Sam, maybe you can bring Brooke along.”

“I’ll ask her,” Sam said.

“Awesome,” Harrison said. “Tonight should be fun.”

Chapter Two

Jane was on the phone in her room. Sam was still out so she had the house to herself. “I would love to go on a date with you tonight but I’ve been going out with you a lot. My daughter might start to get suspicious. Sorry Mike.”

“I hear Brooke entering the house. If you change your mind call me okay?” Mike said.

“Okay,” Jane said. “Bye.”

“Bye,” Mike said.

Jane hung up the phone and went downstairs. She sat down for a minute and began to think. Maybe I should tell Sam I’m dating. No, she’ll freak out and get upset. She began to straighten out the kitchen a bit. Sam walked into the house and greeted her mother.

“Hey mom,” Sam said. “How are you?”

“I’m good,” Jane smiled at her daughter. “How about you?”

“I’m great,” Sam answered. “Can I go to the movies?”

“On a school night?” Jane asked.

“Please, please, please,” Sam begged. “It starts at seven and ends around nine. I won’t be out long.”

“What about your homework?” Jane asked.

“I’ll do it now,” Sam said.

“Okay, you can go,” Jane said.

“You’re the best,” Sam hugged her mom and grabbed the phone.

“You just said you were going to do your homework,” Jane said.

“I just want to ask Brooke if she wants to go to the movies with me and the others,” Sam said. “I’ll do it as soon as I’m done.” Sam dialed Brooke’s cell phone number and waited for her to answer.

“Hey,” Brooke said.

“Hi, do you have any plans for tonight?” Sam asked.

“Yeah,” Brooke replied. “Did you want to do something? I could cancel.”

“No, it’s alright. I just wanted you to come with me and my friends to the movies,” Sam said.

“Well, I’m going to the movies with Nicole and Mary Cherry at seven. We’re going to see that new scary movie,” Brooke said.

“So are we,” Sam said. “So do you want to like meet up at the theater?”

“That’d be great,” Brooke said. “I’ll call you when I’m leaving my house.”

“Okay, bye,” Sam said.

“Bye. I can’t wait to see you,” Brooke said.

Sam hung up the phone and smiled.

“What are you smiling about?” Jane asked.

“She said she couldn’t wait to see me,” Sam squealed.

Jane laughed. “That’s great. Now, go do your homework.”

“Alright, alright, alright,” Sam went upstairs to begin her homework.

Brooke was in her room trying to find something to wear to the movies. “What do you think of this?” She held up a skirt and a top for Mary Cherry and Nicole to see.

“Too dressy for a movie theater,” Nicole said. “Are you dressing up just so you’ll look good for Spam?”

“Yeah,” Brooke answered.

“Just throw on a pair of jeans and a shirt,” Nicole instructed. “Spam doesn’t dress nice for you so you shouldn’t dress nice for her.”

“Besides, it’s always cold in a movie theater. You don’t want to be wearin’ a skirt,” Mary Cherry said.

“Sam can keep me warm,” Brooke smirked. “But I’ll just wear the jeans and shirt.”

“We don’t hafta sit next to her and her friends do we?” Mary Cherry asked.

“You two can sit wherever you want,” Brooke said.

“Good, I don’t want anyone to see us sitting next to those social rejects,” Nicole said.

“Just try to be nice,” Brooke said. “I don’t want Sam to get upset.”

“I don’t want Sam to get upset,” Nicole said in a Brooke-like tone. “If that bitch so much as looks at me wrong we’re throwin’ down right there in front of the theater.”

Brooke sighed and went to pick out her clothes.

Outside the theater…

“I said invite Brooke. Not invite Brooke and her crazy friends,” Harrison said.

“I can’t believe we have to see this movie with the pompom twins,” Lily said.

“It’s not like you guys have to sit in the same row or anything,” Sam said.

“But still,” Carmen said. “We don’t want to see Nicole and Mary Cherry. They always get on our nerves.”

“If they start something with us there’s going to be a problem,” Lily said.

“Here they come,” Harrison said.

Brooke smiled when she saw Sam. She took Sam’s hand into hers and intertwined their fingers.

“I bought you your ticket,” Sam handed the blonde her ticket.

“Thanks,” Brooke said. “I’ll pay you back.”

“It’s okay,” Sam said. “You don’t have to.”

“Why didn’t y’all buy us our tickets too?” Mary Cherry asked.

“Cause no one likes you,” Lily answered.

“Don’t make me hurt you lil’ Lily,” Mary Cherry said.

“Guys the movie starts in five minutes,” Brooke said. “Buy your tickets and let’s head in.”

After Nicole and Mary Cherry bought their tickets everyone went inside the movie theater.

Lily, Carmen, and Harrison sat somewhere in the middle, near the right and Nicole and Mary Cherry also sat in the middle but on the left. Brooke and Sam were in the back on the far right.

“Do you want anything else before the movie starts?” Sam asked. “Like candy or something?”

“No, I’m fine. Thanks,” Brooke said.

When the movie finally began Brooke rested her head on Sam’s shoulder and Sam put her arm around Brooke.

Chapter Three

After the movie…

“That was a great movie,” Brooke said.

“You covered your face through like the whole thing,” Sam said.

“I did not,” Brooke said.

“That movie was so not scary,” Nicole said. “I’ve seen outfits scarier than that movie.”

“Like the one you’re wearing now?” Lily asked.

“You wouldn’t know good fashion if it hit you upside the head,” Nicole said.

“Let’s go Brookie,” Nicole said. “We need to get away from these geeks.”

“That’s okay,” Brooke said. “Sam can you give me a ride?”

“Sure,” Sam said.

“See ya later Brooke,” Mary Cherry said

“Bye,” Brooke said.

“Bye guys,” Sam said to her friends.

Twenty minutes later Sam pulled into Brooke’s driveway.

“I had fun,” Brooke said.

“So did I,” Sam smiled.

“I like being with you,” Brooke said.

Sam unbuckled her seatbelt and leaned over to kiss Brooke. “My mom wants to meet you.”

“Huh? Your mom? She’s nice right?” Brooke asked.

“Yeah,” Sam replied. “She’s cool.”

“Alright, when does she want to meet me?” Brooke asked.

“Tomorrow,” Sam said. “I’m supposed to invite you to dinner.”

“I’m gonna mess up and say something stupid in front of her,” Brooke said.

“Just be yourself,” Sam said. “My mom’s the best.”

“What if she hates me?” Brooke asked.

“She won’t,” Sam said. “You’ll be fine.”

“Do you want to come inside?” Brooke asked.

“I can’t,” Sam sighed. “I have to be home soon.”

“Just for thirty minutes,” Brooke begged. “My dad’s not home.”

“Tempting but I still have to get home,” Sam said.

“I’ll see you tomorrow then?” Brooke asked.

“Of course,” Sam said.

Brooke got out of the car and went inside her house.

Kennedy High…

“I’m totally about to lose it right now,” Brooke said to Nicole.

They were in the Novak talking about the dinner Brooke was suppose to be going to tonight.

“Just don’t go,” Nicole said. “Say you’re sick or something.”

“I can’t just bail,” Brooke said.

“Then just smile and nod your head whenever you’re asked something,” Nicole said.

Carmen walked into the Novak and saw the two blondes sitting on the couch.

“Hi Carmen,” Brooke greeted her.

“Hey Brooke,” Carmen smiled.

“Can I talk to you?” Brooke asked.

“Sure,” Carmen said.

“I’m gonna go find Mary Cherry. Bye Brooke. Excuse me loser,” Nicole said as she walked passed Carmen.

“What’s up?” Carmen asked Brooke.

“Um, I have to have dinner with Sam and her mom tonight and I’m nervous as hell,” Brooke said. “Can you tell me about her mom so I’ll know how to act?”

“Ms.McPherson is pretty laid back,” Carmen said. “If Sam likes you then she’ll like you. Just be yourself.”

“That’s what Sam said,” Brooke said. “Thanks Carmen. I’m gonna head to class. Bye.”

The McPherson Residence…

“Sam stop running around like you’ve lost her head,” Jane said.

“I have to make sure everything’s clean,” Sam said.

“Since when do you care if things are clean?” Jane asked.

“I like things being clean,” Sam said. “I just hate to be the one to clean it. I‘m making an exception today though. Brooke‘s almost here. Are you done cooking?”

“You asked me that a minute ago,” Jane said. “And I said yes.”

“I forgot,” Sam said.

The doorbell rang and Sam jumped. “That’s her! Go wait in the dining room.”

“I have to greet our guest at the door,” Jane said.

“No you don’t,” Sam said. “She’s probably extremely nervous. I want to calm her down before you meet each other.”

“Calm yourself down while you’re at it,” Jane suggested as she walked into the kitchen.

Sam took a deep breath and went to answer the door.

“Hi,” Brooke said.

“Hey,” Sam said. “You look scared.”

“That’s because I am,” Brooke said. “Where is she?”

“I asked her to wait in the dining room,” Sam answered. “Come in.”

Brooke walked inside and fidgeted with the collar of her shirt.

“Calm down, babe,” Sam took Brooke’s hand and gently pulled her to the dining room.

“Hi Brooke,” Jane stuck out her hand for Brooke to shake.

“Hi Ms.McPherson, how are you?” Brooke asked.

“I’m fine and yourself?” Jane asked.

“I’m okay,” Brooke said.

“Have a seat,” Jane said.

Brooke sat down and Sam sat across from her. After all the food was dished out Jane started up a conversation.

“So, you’re a cheerleader?” Jane asked.

“Yes,” Brooke nodded. “I’m the captain.”

“What kind of grades do you get?” Jane asked.

“I’m an A/B student,” Brooke said.

“That’s wonderful,” Jane said. “Sam you were wrong. You said all cheerleaders were stupid.”

“Is that right?” Brooke asked Sam.

“No… well… yeah… I wasn’t counting you though,” Sam said. “And I’m pretty sure I was in a bad mood that day.” Sam shot her mom a glare and Jane smiled.

“Sam’s just a little nervous,” Jane said to Brooke. “She thinks I’m going to embarrass her by showing you her naked baby pictures or something.”

“Mom!” Sam exclaimed.

Brooke laughed and Sam kicked her from under the table which made Brooke laugh even harder.

Sam rolled her eyes. At least she doesn’t seem nervous anymore. Sam thought.

Chapter Four

“Where do you want to go?” Brooke asked Sam. It was lunch time and they were headed to Brooke’s car.

“”My house,” Sam said. “My mom’s baking today.”

“Awesome,” Brooke said. “Did she say anything about me after I left last night?”

“She likes you,” Sam said. “She thinks you’ll be a good influence on me when it comes to my grades. But that‘s not true.”

“Why isn’t it true?” Brooke smirked knowingly.

“Because you distract me from my work,” Sam said.

“I never hear you complaining,” Brooke said.

Sam didn’t have a comeback so she kept quiet. Brooke smiled and gave Sam a kiss.

“My mom wants to meet your dad now,” Sam said going back to their original topic.

“I’ll let him know,” Brooke said. “He’s always real busy so he probably won’t get to meet you guys until next week.”

The two girls got into Brooke’s car and drove off to Sam’s house.

Sam entered her house and Brooke followed her to the kitchen. When they got there they saw Jane making out with a man.

“Mom!” Sam exclaimed. “What are you doing?”

Jane pulled away from the man she was with and looked at her daughter in shock.

“Dad!” Brooke shouted.

“Brooke, what are you doing here?” Mike asked.

“This is Sam’s house,” Brooke said.

“Sam, your daughter and Sam, your girlfriend are both the same person?” Mike asked Brooke and Jane.

“Obviously,” Brooke answered.

“Mom, why is there a ring on your finger?” Sam asked.

Jane smiled. “Mike just asked me to marry him.”

“What? No!” Sam yelled. “You can’t. What about your husband? He’s only been dead for two years! I didn’t even know you were dating anyone.”

“I was going to tell you,” Jane said. “I just didn’t know how.”

“Dad, I can’t believe you’ve been lying to me,” Brooke said. “Business trips my ass.”

“Watch your language, Brooke,” Mike warned.

“Did you go on that cruise with him?” Sam asked.

Jane nodded.

“This is unbelievable,” Sam said. “You know what; I’m going back to school.”

Sam and Brooke left the house in anger.

“Should we go after them?” Mike asked.

“No,” Jane said. “Let them cool off.”

“I don’t believe this,” Brooke said getting into her car.

“My dad’s only been dead for two years and your dad goes and proposes to my mom,” Sam said. “What a bonehead.”

“My dad is not a bonehead,” Brooke said angrily.

“He’s moved in on my mom,” Sam said.

“Your mom was probably the one who made a move on him,” Brooke said.

“Whatever,” Sam said. “Just get us back to school.”

“Your mom and Mr.McQueen?” Harrison said. “That’s crazy.” They had just exited their last class of the day and Sam was telling her friends about her mom being engaged to Mike.

“What are you going to do about it?” Lily asked.

“There’s nothing I can do,” Sam said. “And now Brooke’s mad at me.”

“You and Brooke aren’t talking?” Carmen asked. “Why not?”

“I called her dad a bonehead and said he moved in on my mom,” Sam said. “She wouldn’t even look at me during biology class.”

“Go find her,” Lily said.

Sam nodded and went to go find the blonde. As she walked the halls she spotted Brooke at her locker.

“Hi,” Sam said quietly as she approached Brooke.

“Hi,” Brooke said.

“That pop quiz Bio Glass gave us was insane wasn‘t it?” Sam asked

“Uh huh,” Brooke agreed.

Sam sighed. Brooke didn’t seem too interested in listening to her. “I guess I’ll go.”

“Sam, wait,” Brooke said as Sam began to leave. “I’m sorry.”

“I’m sorry too,” Sam said. “We should be angry at our parents. Not each other.”

“I don’t feel like going home right now,” Brooke said. “And I don’t want to talk about our parents being together.”

“Do you want to go get something to eat?” Sam asked.

“Not hungry,” Brooke replied. “But if you are we can.”

“I’m not really hungry either,” Sam said.

“We can go to make-out point,” Brooke suggested. “Do you want to?”

“Definitely,” Sam said.

“Great,” Brooke grinned. “I need to bring my car home though. You can follow me in your car.”

“Alright,” Sam said.

Brooke and Sam were in the backseat of Sam’s car with Brooke on top of Sam.

“Are you ready?” Brooke asked.

“Ready for what?” Sam asked as she continued to suck on Brooke’s neck.

“The next step in our relationship,” Brooke said.

“You want our first time to be in a car?” Sam asked.

“It’ll be special since it’s with you,” Brooke said.

“Are you a virgin?” Sam asked.

“Are you?” Brooke countered.

“I asked you first,” Sam said.

“Why do you want to know?” Brooke asked.

“I’m just curious,” Sam said. “So are you?”

“No,” Brooke answered. “I did it with Josh. It was just one time though.”

“Oh,” Sam said.

“Oh?” Brooke repeated.

“I just thought you were,” Sam said.

“I’m guessing you are,” Brooke said.

“You guessed correctly,” Sam sighed.

“Is it a problem that I’m not?” Brooke asked.

“No,” Sam shifted a bit the best she could under Brooke’s body.

“So do you want to go to the next level?” Brooke asked again.

“No,” Sam said. “Especially not here. We haven’t been dating long enough.”

“Alright, no rush,” Brooke said.

“We should get home and talk to our parents,” Sam said.

“But we’re having fun here,” Brooke placed her hand under Sam’s shirt. Sam brought her head up to meet Brooke’s lips.

Twenty minutes later…

Brooke and Sam were back in the front of the car.

“What time is it?” Sam asked.

“Four,” Brooke replied. “We’ve been here for almost two hours.”

“We really need to go,” Sam said.

“We’re going to be step-sisters,” Brooke said out of nowhere.

“As least we’re not blood related,” Sam pointed out.

“It’s still weird,” Brooke said.

“Do you want to like… break up?” Sam asked.

‘No, of course not,” Brooke said.

Sam sighed. “Good cause I don’t want to either.

“Well there are some perks to this though,” Brooke said. “If we move in together we’ll be able to see one another more.”

“That’s true. Did you tell Nicole, Mary Cherry, and Popita about this?” Sam asked.

“Yeah,” Brooke nodded.

“And I’m guessing they want you to break up with me,” Sam said.

“They’ve always wanted me to break up with you,” Brooke said. “Are you ready to face the parentals?” Sam asked.

“As ready as I’ll ever be,” Brooke said.

Chapter Five

Sam walked to her house and went straight upstairs. She had dropped Brooke off at her house and the blonde said she would call later.

“Sam,” Jane said as she walked into her daughter’s room. “We need to talk.”

Sam laid down on her bed and stared at her mom. “Yes we do.”

“So, I’m engaged,” Jane said.

“To my girlfriend’s father,” Sam added.

“We’ve been dating for a couple of months now,” Jane said. “I really do love him.”

“A couple of months? Why didn’t you tell me?” Sam asked.

“Because I didn’t want you getting upset,” Jane said. “I know you loved your father more than anything and I’m not trying to replace him. I just needed to move on. It’s what he would’ve wanted.”

“I understand that mom,” Said sat up. “I just want you to be happy… just not with Mike McQueen.”

“I’m sure things will work out,” Jane said. “I won’t adopt Brooke when we get married and Mike won’t adopt you. You two won’t be step-sisters.”

“But everyone will think we are,” Sam said. “And then they’ll think we’re freaks since we’re dating. Why can‘t you just find someone else?”

“Sam, please try to be understanding,” Jane begged. “It’s not everyday I meet someone I want to spend the rest of my life with.”

“When are you getting married?” Sam asked.

“We’re not sure yet,” Jane said.

“Who’s moving where?” Sam asked.

“We’re moving into their house,” Jane answered. “It’s bigger.”

“Is there a date set for that?” Sam asked.

“Yeah, next week,” Jane replied.

“I’m not breaking up with Brooke just because you’re dating Mike,” Sam said.

“I’m not asking you to,” Jane said.

“Then I guess we’re cool,” Sam said.

“You’re not mad anymore?” Jane asked.

“I just want you to be happy mom,” Sam said.

Jane hugged her daughter and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

“You didn’t have to lie,” Brooke said to her dad. They were in the living room talking about Mike and Jane being together.

“I didn’t know if you could handle it,” Mike said.

“I still would’ve preferred it if you told me,” Brooke said.

“I’m sorry,” Mike said. “I should have told you.”

“I don’t want to lose Sam because of this,” Brooke said.

“You won’t,” Mike assured the blonde. “You won’t really be step-sisters because I’m not going to adopt Sam and Jane’s not adopting you.”

“It’ll still be strange,” Brooke said. “But I guess things will be fine.”

“Good,” Mike said. “And again, I’m sorry.”

“You’re forgiven,” Brooke said.

The doorbell rang and Brooke went to answer it. When she opened the door she saw Mary Cherry, Nicole, and Popita.

“Hi Brookie,” Nicole smiled. “We thought you’d need some cheering up after dumping Spam.”

“We’re gonna take ya to the mall,” Mary Cherry said.

“And you don’t have to buy a thing,” Popita added. “Everything’s on us.”

“I’m still with Sam,” Brooke said.

“What?” Mary Cherry said. “You’re gonna be sisters. That’s just nasty.”

“We aren’t blood related,” Brooke clarified.

“So?” Nicole said. “It’s still nasty.”

“You’re just saying that because you don’t like Sam,” Brooke said. “Just pretend to be happy for me.”

“Fine,” Nicole sighed.

“We can still go to the mall though,” Brooke smiled.

“Terrific,” Popita said. “Let’s go girls.”

Kennedy High the next day…

“We’re moving in together next week,” Sam told the blonde as they walked towards the Novak.

“Yeah I know,” Brooke said.

“I have a lot of things,” Sam warned.

“You have a big room,” Brooke said. “I’m pretty sure everything will fit fine.”

“Sam!” Harrison called from down the hall. “Come here!”

“I’ll talk to you later,” Sam said to Brooke.

“Okay,” Brooke gave Sam a kiss and went into the Novak.

“What’s up?” Sam asked when she reached Harrison and her other friends.

“How’s everything going with the parentals?” Harrison asked.

“They’re staying together,” Sam said. “And me and Brooke are staying together.”

“When’s the wedding?” Lily asked.

“Not sure,” Sam said. “But we’re moving in together next week.”

“Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” Carmen asked.

“It’s a great thing,” Sam smiled. “We’ll get to spend more time together.”

“Among other things,” Harrison wriggled his eyebrows.

Sam rolled her eyes. “Anyway, I think moving in together will bring us closer together.”

One week later…

“You can’t have the right side of the sink!” Brooke yelled.

“I had the right side when I was at my house!” Sam yelled back.

“Well guess what Toto,” Brooke said. “You’re not in Kansas anymore.”

“Ugh,” Sam stomped her foot on the floor. “Let’s flip a coin.”

“No,” Brooke shook her head. “The right side is mine and that’s that.”

“What’s wrong with the left side?” Sam asked.

“Nothing,” Brooke said.

“Then why won’t you take it?” Sam asked.

“Why won’t you take it?” Brooke folded her arms across her chest.

“My room’s on the right side,” Sam said. “I should have the right sink. It only makes sense.”

“Bullshit,” Brooke said. “The right has always been mine and that’s not going to change now.”

“This war isn’t over,” Sam said storming out of the bathroom.

Chapter Six

“I swear she’s trying to drive me crazy for her own personal satisfaction. She’s trying to steal the right sink from me! She’s crossed the line! And Ohmygod, she has this ugly ass lamp that she brought over from her house. It’s awful!” Brooke was in the Novak ranting to her friends, Nicole and Mary Cherry.

“Break the lamp,” Nicole suggested. “That’s one problem solved.”

“I am not going to break her lamp,” Brooke said.

“I thought you were happy that she was goin’ to live with ya,” Mary Cherry said.

“I was,” Brooke said. “But that house isn’t big enough for the both of us. Someone’s going to get hurt.”

“Are y’all still together?” Mary Cherry asked. “Cause it sure doesn’t sound like it.”

“Yes,” Brooke replied. “We’re still dating.”

“Well, there’s a lot of drama going on in that house of yours,” Nicole said. “What are your ‘rents up to?”

“Planning a date for the wedding,” Brooke said.

“Maybe we’ll all go out tonight to get you away from Spam,” Nicole said.

“No, I like being around Sam,” Brooke said. “She’s just frustrating.”

“She doesn’t like my lamp!” Sam exclaimed. “My lamp is the best. And she won‘t let me have the right sink. She’s a neat freak. She didn’t want to mess around in my room because it was too messy. She’s psycho.”

Lily, Carmen, and Harrison were at Sam’s locker listening to her complain about Brooke.

“Weren’t you the same one who said you two moving in together would bring you closer together?” Carmen asked.

“I was wrong,” Sam said. “But we haven’t drifted apart or anything. We just fight… a lot.”

“You’re acting like sisters,” Harrison said.

“Shut up, Harrison,” Sam said.

“They’re acting like a married couple,” Lily said.

Sam felt arms wrap around her from behind and knew it was Brooke. Nicole and Mary Cherry were also with her.

“Hey,” Brooke greeted her girlfriend. “What are you guys up to?”

“Just talking about your uh… living conditions,” Harrison replied.

“We were talkin’ ‘bout livin’ conditions too,” Mary Cherry said.

“Hey Spam, I was thinking about calling the zoo for you,” Nicole said. “I’m sure they have a place for you to stay. Brooke doesn’t need you ruining her house.”

“Go wax your mustache or something,” Sam said.

“Too bad I don’t have one,” Nicole snapped. “Stupid whore.”

“Hey,” Brooke said. “Stop arguing you two. We need to all learn how to get along. All of you come over to our place around six.”

“For what?” Lily asked.

“I don’t know yet,” Brooke said. “We’ll get to learn about each other.”

“Whatever, I’m going to go find people worthy of my presence,” Nicole said.

“Are ya comin’ Brookie?” Mary Cherry asked.

“In a second,” Brooke said.

Nicole and Mary Cherry walked off leaving Brooke with Sam’s friends.

“Will you guys come?” Brooke asked.

“Sure, we’d love to,” Carmen said.

“Should we bring anything?” Lily asked.

“Just yourselves. Alright, I’ll see you guys later,” Brooke said. “Bye Sammy.”

Sam turned around in Brooke’s arms and gave her a long kiss. “Bye.”

Brooke smiled and went to go find her friends.

Brooke found Nicole and Mary Cherry with Josh and Sugar Daddy.

“Hey Brooke,” Josh greeted.

“Hi,” Brooke said. “How are you?”

“I’m good,” Josh replied. “Where’s Sam?”

“With her friends,” Brooke answered.

“Can we talk?” Josh asked.

“Um, sure,” Brooke, Nicole, Mary Cherry, and SD waited for Josh to begin talking.

“Alone,” Josh clarified.

Everyone left leaving Brooke and Josh alone.

“What’s up?” Brooke asked.

“I heard about your dad and Sam’s mom,” Josh said.

“Yeah, it’s crazy,” Brooke said.

“I want us to get back together,” Josh said.

“I’m with Sam now,” Brooke said.

“You’re going to be step-sisters,” Josh pointed out. “You can’t stay together.”

“Well, we are,” Brooke said.

“Brooke, I’m sorry that our relationship didn’t work out and I want to give it another shot,” Josh said.

“It’s too late,” Brooke said. “And I don’t have those kind of feelings towards you anymore.”

Josh tried to place his hand on Brooke’s cheek but she pushed his hand away. “Can you honestly look me in the eye and tell me you don’t want to be with me.”

“I don’t want to be with you,” Brooke said.

Sam was walking with her friends to the cafeteria when she saw Brooke and Josh talking. She went over to them and stood next to Brooke.

“Hi Sam,” Josh sighed. “Bye Brooke. I’m gonna head to lunch.”

“What were you two talking about?” Sam asked as Josh walked away.

“Nothing,” Brooke responded.

“It didn’t look like nothing,” Sam said.

“Sam, don’t make something out of nothing,” Brooke warned.

“I was just asking,” Sam said. “I mean when you and Josh talk Nicole or somebody is usually around. You were just standing there with him alone talking about whatever.”

“Sam, shut up and stop being jealous,” Brooke said.

“I am not the jealous type,” Sam stated.

“Um, actually, you kinda are,” Carmen jumped into the conversation.

“Yeah Sam, you’re the jealous type,” Lily said.

“What do you think Harrison?” Sam asked.

“Harrison is neutral,” Harrison said.

“Can I talk to Sam alone?” Brooke asked Lily, Harrison, and Carmen. They each nodded and took off to the cafeteria. “Sam, I don’t want Josh. I have you. I’m not gonna leave you for him. Okay?”

Sam looked down at the floor and Brooke brought her head back up. “Look at me.” Sam did as she was told and stared into Brooke’s eyes. “I love you. Not Josh.”

Sam stood there dumbfounded. Did Brooke just say she loved me? Sam thought.

Brooke smiled, kissed Sam on her cheek, and then also left to the cafeteria.

Chapter Seven

“So she just said it and left?” Lily asked. Sam, Lily, and Carmen were in a coffee shop talking.

“Yeah,” Sam said. “I was in shock and didn’t say anything back. I was processing the information.”

“Do you love her?” Carmen asked.

“Yeah, I think I do,” Sam said.

“Well, you should tell her,” Carmen suggested.

“I will,” Sam said. “I‘ll tell her tonight before you guys come over.”

“Are you going do something romantic?” Lily asked.

“No, I’m just gonna tell her I love her,” Sam said. “Should I do something more?”

“Do whatever you want,” Carmen said. “As long as it’s from the heart I‘m sure Brooke will be happy.”

“Where’s Harrison?” Sam asked.

“He’s buying a twister game,” Lily replied.

Sam rolled her eyes. “Like Mary Cherry and Nicole are really going to play that with us.

The Palace…

Sam and Brooke were making out in Brooke’s room waiting for their friends to come over. Sam was sitting up with her back resting against the headboard and Brooke was straddling her thighs. Brooke deepened the kiss when she heard Sam moan.

“Brooke, me and-” Jane stopped talking when she saw the two girls. Brooke got off of Sam and the bed.

Sam covered her face with her hands. “Please let this be a dream.”

“Um, Mike and I were going to leave but I guess we’ll stay until your friends arrive,” Jane said.

“We weren’t doing anything,” Sam said. “Well… we were doing something just not the thing that you think we were going to do. We were just making out. That’s it.”

“So you two have never-” Jane began.

“No,” Brooke answered.

“So you’re not active?” Jane asked.

“Mom!” Sam yelled.

“No we’re not,” Brooke replied.

“Okay, me and Mike are going out and we’ll be back around eleven. We will have a discussion about sex later,” Jane left the room.

“She wants to have the talk with us,” Sam sighed.

“Let’s go downstairs,” Brooke pulled Sam off the bed. “Our friends will be here soon anyway.”

“Brooke,” Sam said.

“Yeah?” Brooke turned to face Sam.

“I love you too,” Sam said.

Brooke grinned and hugged Sam. “You don’t know how happy I am to hear you say that. You’re not just saying it to say it are you?”

“No,” Sam said. “I really do love you.”

Brooke gave Sam a kiss on the lips. “Come on, let‘s go downstairs.”

Several minutes later…

The doorbell rang and Sam went to answer it. She saw Nicole and Mary Cherry standing there. Nicole had a bottle of alcohol in her hand. Sam rolled her eyes and shut the door in their faces. She walked back to the living room and sat down next to Brooke.

“Who was it?” Brooke asked.

“Satan and MC,” Sam said.

Brooke sighed and got up to answer the door. “Sorry Sam slammed the door in your faces.” Brooke said to her friends.

“It’s okay,” Nicole said. “I’ll just slam her face into something.”

“What did you bring alcohol for?” Brooke asked.

“Alcohol keeps things fun,” Nicole stated.

“We are not drinking that,” Brooke said.

Before Nicole could say anything Josh pulled up in his car with Sugar Daddy.

“What are they doing here?” Brooke asked.

“I invited them,” Nicole said.

“Just because y’all ain’t datin’ anymore doesn’t mean that y’all can’t be friends,” Mary Cherry said.

“Hi guys,” Brooke said as Josh and Sugar Daddy walked up.

“Hey,” both guys said.

Sam saw Josh walk into the living room and glanced over at Brooke who shrugged.

Everyone was at the Palace now. Harrison had convinced everyone to play twister. Sugar Daddy was calling out the orders but he was pretending to use the spinner. He was really just trying to get all the girls into compromising positions.

“I’m not playing this crap anymore,” Nicole said getting up. “You aren’t even playing the game right.”

“Yeah I am,” Sugar Daddy said.

“Then how come all the gals are in weird sexual positions?” Mary Cherry asked.

“I’m not complaining,” Harrison smiled.

“You guys are a bunch of pervs,” Lily said standing up.

“Then maybe we can all dance or something,” Josh suggested.

“I’ll go get some CD’s,” Brooke said going up stairs.

“I’ll go get more food from the kitchen,” Sam said.

Josh decided to follow Brooke upstairs.

“What are you doing up here?” Brooke asked when she saw Josh walk into her room.

“I miss being with you,” Josh said.

“We talked about this already,” Brooke said.

“I know,” Josh said. “But you’ve had time to think about it.”

“I don’t need to think about it,” Brooke said. “I want to be with Sam. Not you.”

“Kiss me,” Josh said. “If you don’t feel anything, than we can just be friends.”

“I’m not going to kiss you,” Brooke said.

“Why not?” Josh asked.

“Cause then I’d be cheating on Sam,” Brooke said.

“It’s just one kiss,” Josh said.

“One kiss that’s not going to happen,” Brooke said. “We should go back down-” Josh caught off Brooke by kissing her.

“What’s taking you so long to get a couple of CD’s?” Sam walked into Brooke’s room and saw Josh and Brooke.

Josh pulled away from Brooke and Brooke looked at Sam.

“This is not what you think,” Brooke said quickly.

“I didn’t just see you and Josh kissing?” Sam asked angrily.

“You did… but it’s not like that,” Brooke said.

“I’m going back downstairs,” Sam said coldly.

Brooke watched Sam leave and took a deep breath. “Josh, you better fix this.”

Brooke went downstairs leaving Josh alone.

Chapter Eight

“Nicole where’s that bottle of alcohol you had?” Sam asked as she entered the living room.

“Why?” Nicole asked.

“I feel for a drink,” Sam said.

“It’s in the kitchen,” Nicole said.

“Thanks,” Sam went to the kitchen leaving Nicole confused.

“Did she just thank me?” Nicole asked.

Brooke walked into the living room and didn’t see Sam. “Where’s Sam?”

“The kitchen,” Lily answered. “Where are the CD’s?”

“I don’t really feel like dancing,” Brooke said.

“Did something happen upstairs?” Carmen asked. “You and Sam seem… off.”

Brooke sighed and went to the kitchen.

“Something’s up,” Harrison said.

“We might need to investigate,” Mary Cherry said.

Josh walked into the room and everyone looked at him. “What?”

What happened?” Lily asked.

“What makes you think something happened?” Josh asked.

“Spam and Brookie are acting weird,” Nicole answered. “So what’s the what?”

“I think I should go,” Josh said. “You comin’ SD?”

“Yeah man,” Sugar Daddy got up and followed Josh out of the house.

“Let’s go ease drop on Sam and Brooke,” Nicole said.

“That’s not right,” Carmen said. “Let them have their privacy.”

“Pssh, you can stay here but I’m going to see what’s happening,” Nicole said.

“I’m with Nic,” Mary Cherry said.

Carmen, Lily, and Harrison stayed for a second and then quickly joined Nicole and Mary Cherry.

“Sam you shouldn’t be drinking,” Brooke said.

“Go away,” Sam took another shot.

“Let me explain,” Brooke begged.

“I don’t want to hear it,” Sam said.

“But you don’t understand. I-” Brooke got cut off by Sam.

“I don’t’ care,” Sam said. “I told you I loved you and you go and cheat on me.”

“Sam, please just listen,” Brooke said.

“No, you’re a fucking whore. I hate you. You can go back to Josh. I hope you two are happy together,” Sam said.

“I don’t want Josh,” Brooke said.

“And I don’t want you,” Sam walked out of the kitchen and saw everyone hiding behind the wall. She rolled her eyes and went upstairs.

Brooke wiped the tears from her eyes that she didn’t even know had fallen. She exited the kitchen to find her friends. “I think you guys should go. I’m sorry.”

“Do you need to talk?” Carmen asked.

“No,” Brooke said. “I’m just gonna go to sleep.”

“Do you want me to go knock some sense into Sam for you?” Nicole asked.

“I thought you would be happy that we split up,” Brooke sniffed.

“I don’t really care that you’re dating Spam,” Nicole said. “I just think you should date Josh because he’s popular and dresses better.”

“Oh… well I’ll talk to you all later when I‘m feeling better.”

After everyone left Brooke went to her room and cried herself to sleep.

Sam got up early and had breakfast. She was going to avoid Brooke the best she could. Jane walked downstairs and saw Sam sitting at the kitchen table reading the newspaper.

“You’re ready early,” Jane said.

“Yeah, I just want to get out of this house,” Sam said.

“Why’s that?” Jane asked sitting down next to the brunette.

“Me and Brooke aren’t dating anymore,” Sam said. “It looks like you don’t have to have that talk with us.”

“Why’d you guys break up?” Jane asked. “Is it because of me and Mike?”

“No,” Sam said. “I saw her and Josh kiss.”

“Oh,” Jane said. “When?”

“Yesterday during the get together,” Sam said. “I should’ve known someone like her wouldn’t be able to stay with someone like me.”

“What is that suppose to mean?” Jane asked.

“She’s too good for me,” Sam said.

“That’s not true,” Jane said. “You’re a special girl. There are a lot of people out there who would love to date you.”

“Thanks for trying to make me feel better,” Sam said getting up. “I’m gonna go. I‘ll see you after school.”

Jane went upstairs and knocked on Brooke’s door. When she got no answer she opened it. “Brooke, are you awake?”

“No,” Brooke replied.

Jane walked over to the bed and pulled the covers down from over Brooke’s head.

“Did you come in here to talk to me about Sam?”

“Yeah,” Jane nodded. “She’s pretty upset.”

“Well, I didn’t do what she thinks I did,” Brooke said. “She just won’t listen to me so I can’t explain to her what happened.”

“Explain to me what happened then,” Jane said.

“I went upstairs to get a few CD’s and Josh followed me upstairs. He told me to kiss him and if I didn’t feel anything he would be fine with just being friends. I told him wasn’t going to kiss him and in mid sentence he kissed me and that’s when Sam walked in,” Brooke explained.

“Have Josh tell her what happened if she won‘t listen to you,” Jane suggested.

“I really doubt she wants to hear anything from him,” Brooke said.

“I’m sure things will work out fine,” Jane assured the girl.

“I hope so,” Brooke sighed. “I’ll try to talk to her again before we leave for school.”

“She’s already gone,” Jane said.

“What?” Brooke looked at the clock. “School doesn’t start for another hour.”

“She’s probably just driving around or something,” Jane said.

“I guess I’ll talk to her during school,” Brooke said. “But she’ll probably avoid me like I’m the plague.”

Jane kissed Brooke on her forehead and left the room.

Chapter Nine

When Brooke walked into the Novak she saw Nicole wiping off her face which had ketchup all over it. Mary Cherry was standing next to her handing her baby wipes.

“What the hell happened to you?” Brooke asked.

“Nic was attacked by a savage animal,” Mary Cherry said.

“Some freak who is probably April Tuna’s friend was running around the cafeteria yelling something about penguins and I tripped her ass as she ran by me. The bitch got mad and squirted ketchup in my face and then she tried to poke me in the eye with a fry. I swear they let anybody into this school nowadays,” Nicole said. “But next time I see that crazy geek I’m gonna pound her face in.” Nicole finished wiping off her face and turned to Brooke. “Have you talked to Spam yet?”

“I haven’t seen her,” Brooke sighed. “And she skipped all the classes I have with her.”

“Maybe she’s just not here,” Mary Cherry said.

“No, she’s here,” Brooke said. “I asked Lily.”

Sam walked into the Novak and saw Brooke. She glared at her and left. Brooke quickly went after her.

“Talk to me Sam,” Brooke said as she followed the girl down the hallway.”

“Why?” Sam asked. “So you can lie to me?”

“So I can explain to you what happened,” Brooke said. “You’ve got everything all wrong.”

Sam continued to walk at a fast pace and Brooke decided there was no point in following her. Josh who was at his locker watching them sighed and went over to Brooke.

“I’m sorry about yesterday,” Josh said.

“I don’t want a damn apology,” Brooke said vehemently. “I want you to tell Sam what happened.”

“If it’ll make things better I’ll do that for you,” Josh said. “I’ll go find her right now.”

“I’m coming with you,” Brooke said.

Josh and Brooke found Sam in the journalism room. Brooke waited outside the door while Josh went to talk to the brunette.

“Hey Sam,” Josh said.

“Come to gloat about getting Brooke back?” Sam asked.

“No,” Josh said. “What happened between me and Brooke was a heat of the moment thing. She‘s sorry for kissing me. It shouldn‘t of happened.”

“But it did,” Sam said. “Now if you don’t mind I’m trying to write an article.”

“Brooke’s heartbroken,” Josh continued. “I don’t want to see her hurt and I know you don’t.”

“Actually,” Sam said. “I could care less.”

Josh gave up and left the room closing the door behind him.

“What’d she say?” Brooke asked.

“She doesn’t care about you,” Josh said.

“Maybe I should talk to her,” Brooke said.

“It’s not gonna help,” Josh said. “She won’t listen.”

“Why does she have to be so hard-headed?” Brooke asked herself. “I’ll just go to Lily and Carmen. They’ll know what to do.”

Josh watched Brooke leave and ran a hand through his hair. “Why won’t she just come back to me?”

Brooke caught up with Lily and Carmen after school and asked them for advice.

“Before we help you we must know the truth,” Lily said. “Did you kiss Josh?”

“He kissed me and I didn’t kiss back,” Brooke said. “Sam just walked in at the wrong moment. You guys believe me right?”

“I believe you,” Carmen said.

“I do too,” Lily said.

“So you’ll help me?” Brooke asked.

“All of Sam’s walls are back up now,” Lily said. “It’s gonna be hard to break them down.”

“Yeah, just be patient with her,” Carmen said. “If you’re persistent enough she’ll eventually listen to what you have to say. I‘m not sure what else to tell you.”

“Thanks guys,” Brooke said.

The Palace…

Sam was getting herself a drink when Brooke walked into the kitchen and cornered her.

“I’m going to talk and you’re going to listen,” Brooke said sternly.

“I don’t want to hear anything you have to say,” Sam said.

“I don’t care,” Brooke said. “Stop being a bitch and listen to me.”

Sam tried to get pass Brooke but the blonde wouldn’t let her leave.

“I don’t have time for this,” Sam said angrily.

“Can I at least have a minute of your time?” Brooke asked.

“Thirty seconds,” Sam said.

“That’s better than nothing,” Brooke said.

“Twenty seven seconds,” Sam said impatiently.

Brooke began to speak as fast as she could. “Okay well, Josh came into my room while I was in there and he was like kiss me and if you don’t feel anything we can be friends and I was like no and he kissed me and that’s when you walked in.”

“So you didn’t kiss him back?” Sam asked.

Brooke shook her head.

Sam gave Brooke a hug. “I’m so sorry. I should’ve believed you.”

“It’s okay,” Brooke said. “God, I miss being in your arms.”

“We’ve only been broken up for a day,” Sam pointed out.

“It felt like longer than that,” Brooke said.

“Wait, Josh told me you kissed him,” Sam said pulling away from Brooke.

“I did not. That bastard lied to you,” Brooke said. “He wants to get back with me.”

“Let’s not worry about him right now,” Sam said. “We have some making up to do.”

Brooke smiled as Sam pulled her out of the kitchen and up to her room.

Kennedy high…

Brooke went up to Josh and stared at him coldly. “You told Sam that I kissed you.”

“Maybe she heard me wrong,” Josh said.

“Josh, don’t piss me off even more than I already am,” Brooke warned. “I don’t want to be with you and I don’t even know if I want to be friends with you right now. You almost ruined my relationship with Sam.”

Josh looked down and back up. “I’m sorry. I just… you were my first love. I guess I’m not ready to let you go.”

“Well you need to,” Brooke said. “Bye Josh.”

Nicole, Popita, and Mary Cherry saw Brooke walking away from Josh and went over to her.

“Are you and Spam back together?” Nicole asked.

“Yes we are,” Brooke smiled. “Everything is how it should be.”

“And you’ll live happily ever after right?” Nicole asked. “Wrong! I bet my house that you two will end up breaking up at least three more times before the school year is over.”

“Gee thanks,” Brooke said.

“So has everything calmed down now?” Nicole asked.

“What do you mean?” Brooke asked.

“Are you and Spam still freaking out about your parents getting married?”

“No,” Brooke answered. “Things are working out.”

“Hey Nic, isn’t that the girl who attacked you with a fry?” Popita asked.

Nicole looked over to where Popita was pointing. “That’s her!”

“Let’s go teach her a lesson,” Mary Cherry said.

“Hey you!” Nicole yelled down the hall trying to get the girl’s attention.

The girl looked at Nicole and took off running.

“Get your ass back here!” Nicole chased after the girl with Mary Cherry in tow. Popita and Brooke shook their heads.

Sam walked up to her girlfriend and took her hand in hers. “And people think my friends are weird.”
