Sam opened her eyes from a dream and stared at the face next to her bed. She licked her lips and smiled dreamily, watching as the moonlight faded into the cheeks and sparkling brown eyes she knew so well. Janet was smiling. She had been smiling ever since she died.

Sam reached out and touched the moonlight. She felt Janet's fingers against her own, felt Janet's love in the warmth of the ghostly embrace. She pulled the blanket higher, past her shoulders, and settled in again.

She said good-night to her ever-vigilant angel and fell to a sound, comforting slumber.
