The dinner table descended quickly into silence after Sam asked the question.

Janet looked down for a moment, then looked into Sam's wide, blue, questioning eyes. "What do you want me to do?" Janet asked softly. "Do you want to break my heart?"

Sam reached across the table, putting her hand atop Janet's. "It's the only fair thing."

Janet blinked, nodded and looked down again. She snapped the heart-shaped cookie down the middle and handed half to Sam. The blonde smiled and said, "Thanks, baby," before taking a bite of the candy.

Janet giggled and bit into her half. "You're such a heart-breaker."
