Janet licked her thumb, turning the page in her file and shaking her head in wonder. "This... has been going on for a year?"

"Yes, ma'am," Major Samuels nodded.

She shook her head. "Quite a lot to take in. Alien worlds, alien gods. I'm supposed to accept all this as real?"

"Yes, and I can tell you from experience, it is all fact."

She sighed and stared out the plane window. "Well, I suppose I should keep reading if I'm going to accurately determine whether or not to keep up funding. Excuse me, please."

"Yes, Senator Fraiser."

She opened the file and began reading again.
