A story about a beautiful girl named Sam...and a golden dreamer named Brooke.
Study hall was extremely boring to the blond, beautiful girl who sat beside the window, staring out of it at the looming, silent forest that stood about fifty feet away, and slowly seeped into the inner edges of her subconscious reality.
"Brooke?" an irritated voice rang out from somewhere in the realm of her stifling reality, "Brooke?"
Brooke yawned heavily, then painfully stretched her long, lanky frame on the uncomfortable, wooden chair in which she stiffly sat, "what?"
"Have you heard a single word that I've said so far, Brooke?" a short, slender, blond asked her with evident chagrin, "are you daydreaming again?"
"Get off my case, Nic," Brooke replied with a touch of anger, as she turned to stare out the window once more, and let her mind return to a pleasant revelry of escaping to the arms of the forest that lay nearby, waiting with anxious arms.
"You aren't listening again, Brooke," Nicole said as she filed her long, painted nails down with a file, "cheerleading practice has to be upped to five times a week. Our squad is getting lazy."
"Nic?" a pretty black girl with a gentle smile asked, "do you think I would look good in red Capris, and a purple top?" The girl was busily checking herself in her silver compact, "I'm checking out a new guy, and I don't want to overstate myself!"
"Popita, how couldya do that?" a voice interrupted, "ya'll know purple is a LEZBIIIAN colah!" the girl had a shrill voice, and her large mouth was painted in radical red, "beeesides, red onlah goez wid black!"
"I most definitely agree with you, Mary Cherry," Nicole said half-heartedly as she put down the file and turned a page in her history text book, "Brooke? Aren't you doing your homework yet?"
Brooke had tuned out her best friend, Nicole, and was now embarked upon a voyage to her inner mind, as she traveled to the looming forest of tall oaks, rich earth, and a heavy breeze that filtered through her pale blond locks of shoulder length hair. A song played hauntingly like an echo that bounced from the inner walls of her mind, then raced to her heart;
"There she goes
There she goes again
Racing through my brain
And I just can't contain
This feeling that remains..."
Brooke pursued a pale, beautiful, elusive nymph with long, wild, thick, dark, waist length hair, dark, flashing eyes, and full, crimson lips. The gorgeous girl was only a few feet ahead of her, and Brooke reached out to almost touch the very tips of the brunette's long hair. But the fleeing vision slipped out of her grasp, and the lanky blond was left behind, surrounded by a silent forest while her obsession vanished into nothingness, "Sam."
"There she goes
There she goes again
Pulsing through my veins
And I just can't contain
This feeling that remains..."
"Oh brother," Nic exclaimed as she saw someone entering the study lab, "its HER again!"
"Who?" Brooke looked around anxiously.
"April Tuna just walked in," Nicole winced at the sight of a tall, thin, redheaded girl in a sixties type of Star Trek costume, "I can't stand her!"
The aforementioned April Tuna walked elegantly by the table where Nicole, Popita, Mary Cherry, and Brooke sat, all looking absolutely prim and proper in their cheerleading outfits. The redhead leveled a vicious glare at Nicole, who in turn replied with a haughty smirk.
"She wouldn't let me cheat off her in English Lit!" Popita exclaimed indignantly in a muffled whisper to Mary Cherry who sat beside her, and leaned toward her conspiratorially.
"Ah knowz," Mary Cherry said wisely, "her and dem geeky freyands o' herz r' all snobs! Whole lot of um!"
"Terrible taste in clothes!" Nicole wrinkled her nose, "bunch of losers actually think they're superior to US! Can you believe that?"
"I thought it was Sam," Brooke murmured as she pushed an annoying lock of stray, blond hair from her eyes.
"You never stop obsessing about her, do you Brooke?" Nicole added angrily, "Its not natural, you know."
"Isn't she dating that hunky George?" Popita asked excitedly, as she sensed another gossipy subject, "I just love the way he looks in football jerseys!"
"That bitch broke up with him," Nicole said off handedly, "he's chasing her best friend, Carmen Ferrara around!"
"That heavenly stud luvs dat fat cow?" Mary Cherry was horrified.
"She's dating Harrison now," Brooke murmured from her dire mood.
"Samantha is a' datin her beyast freyand?" Mary Cherry's breath caught in her throat, "datz INCEYAST!"
"You dufus!" Nicole exclaimed, "incest means brother and sister, not best friends."
"Ouuh," Mary Cherry was duly chastized.
"There she goes
There she goes again
Pulsing through my veins
And I just can't contain
This feeling that remains..."
Brooke couldn't hold back the annoying memory that returned often to her mind; the day dark and beguiling Samantha, her reluctant step-sister finally broke down, then confessed being in love with her. Brooke had been shocked at first, then amazed at such a thing, "but I always thought she hated me," the blond said to herself." Sam had sprung her declaration of love as the two of them watched TV during the evening hours of a retreating Tuesday night, when their parents; Brooke's dad, and Sam's mom had gone out for a movie and dinner. Of course, when Sam saw Brooke's hesitation, the girl repented, thinking that Brooke was repulsed by her. But that wasn't the case. The lanky girl was simply surprised, and reassured the girl. No. Brooke just didn't return Samantha's feelings. Sam was crushed, and rushed up to her room. Brooke was too embarrassed to follow to comfort the girl. After that the subject was no longer mentioned between them. But from that day on, a terribly painful sensation of embarrassment, guilt, and discomfort settled between the two of them. From the day of her ill-received confession, Sam took to avoiding Brooke.
"There she goes
(There she goes again)
There she goes again
(There she goes again)
Racing through my brain
(There she goes)
And I just can't contain
This feeling that remains..."
At that moment in her life, Brooke had been fairly certain that she was deeply in love with her on, and off again boyfriend, tall, handsome Josh Ford. But only two months later, Brooke had broken up with Josh, because she had inexplicably fallen out of love with him. Somewhere, somehow during those two past months the unthinkable had happened to Brooke; she had somehow fallen deeply in love with Samantha McPherson. But it was all too late then; Sam had managed to move on to George, then Harrison. "Its all my fault," Brooke chided herself, "Sam is my only chance to be happy. But I pushed her away."
"There she goes
There she goes again
She calls my name
she pulls my train
No one else could heal my pain
And I just can't contain
This feeling that remains..."
Once more Brooke rushed away on the wings of a dream that haunted her constantly in both sleep, and waking hours; she was back in her primeval forest, watching her gorgeous girl walking through the tall trees, auburn highlights bouncing off her dark locks from the sunlight that filtered through the heavy forest foliage, her pale, unblemished skin seeming to glow dimly in its almost milky tone, her full, ruby lips set in a teasing smile, her dark eyes flashing like twin flames.
"There she goes
(There she goes again)
There she goes
(There she goes again)
There she goes..."
And once again Brooke felt the usual tightening of her heart, the pain in her soul as she recalled how she had turned Sam away. Once more, Brooke watched her dream of love disappear within the shadowy trees that populated her secret forest of regret.
"Oh look who just walked in!" Popita exclaimed excitedly.
"Who?" Mary Cherry asked, her blue eyes empty of all intelligence.
"Those two losers?" Nicole asked bitterly as she glanced up at Popita's suggestion, "Carmen and Lilly?"
Carmen Ferrara, tall, pudgy redhead, with little, dark and pretty Lilly Esposito entered Study hall, arms filled with books, chatting animatedly.
"Sam's friends?" Brooke was suddenly very alert, her hazel eyes fixed on the newly arrived girls, "is Sam with them?"
"Like I care?" Nicole remarked, her voice a study in sarcasm and bitterness, "that's all you ever think about anymore, Brooke! You won't talk about anything else. Its all just Sam..." the little blond cheerleader took a breath from her heated argument, her wounded pride, "if you keep this up I'm going to seriously think that you're in love with that loser!"
"There she goes
(She calls my name)
There she goes again
(She calls my name)
Chasing down my lane
(She calls my name)
And I just can't contain
This feeling that remains..."
Brooke glared angrily at Nicole for an entire second before the lanky girl condemned her best friend once more to forgetfulness. The tall blond got up from her seat at the table, then took quick strides toward the two girls who had just entered the study hall, "Carm...Lilly...have you guys seen Sam?"
"Hi Brooke!" Carmen exclaimed, blushing furiously as she looked at the blond cheerleader, for the girl secretly harbored a serious crush for golden, radiant Brooke, "haven't you heard what just happened to Sam?"
"What?" Brooke felt her heart quicken as panic reached it, "is Sam alright? Lilly...what's going on?"
"Its just awful, Brooke!" Lilly exclaimed excitedly, "Harrison just broke up with Sammy!"
"Oh my God!" Brooke yelled, causing a sudden wave of shushing to rise up from both students and teachers in the study hall, "sorry," the girl excused herself, but then turned toward Carmen and Lilly once more, "where's Sam?"
"We just passed her outside on our way here," Carmen replied, "she was crying."
"There she goes!" Lilly exclaimed pointing to the window beside the table where Brooke had previously been sitting.
"There she goes
(There she goes again)
There she goes
(There she goes again)
There she goes..."
Brooke turned quickly around, looking out the window where Lilly pointed to. The blond girl's breath hitched, her heart lurched with joy as her eyes fell upon Sam's beautiful form walking by in apparent despair.
"There she goes
There she goes again
Racing through my brain
And I just can't contain
This feeling that remains
There she goes
There she goes again
Pulsing through my veins
And I just can't contain
This feeling that remains..."
"What the hell are you doing, Brooke?" Nicole watched as her best friend literally ran out of Study hall, then disappeared down the hall, only to re-emerge outside of the school, "hey...why is Brooke chasing Sam?" Nicole was horrified, appalled and insulted all at once in a single glance.
"Aaaawww...its just sssssssssssooooooo cute!" Popita whispered with a huge smile on her pink lips, for she was a romantic at heart.
"Just what do you mean?" Nicole asked angrily, as her pretty face became redder and redder by the minute.
"Its just so obvious, Nic," Popita replied quietly, "Brooke is in love with Sam!"
"No! That can't be!" Nicole raged loudly.
Carmen and Lilly began to giggle like two old hens, Popita and Mary Cherry looked at each other knowingly. April Tuna stopped talking to her geeky friends for a moment, glanced toward Nicole, and simply smirked in triumph.
The entire population of the Study hall ceased their activities, to stare in rapt attention out the windows to see Brooke catching up to Samantha, seizing the brunette's books from her arms, throwing them to the ground. Sam looked angrily at her step-sister, and was about to start a shouting match, when she found herself seized as well by Brooke's long, slender arms to be bound by a loving embrace. Then Brooke surprised Sam by brazenly kissing her on the lips with passion and desire. After about ten seconds of heated kissing, Brooke released Sam, and looked intently into the girl's shocked face. Sam seemed dazed by Brooke's unexpected kiss, so that she blinked a few times but eventually recovered, then smiled at her taller sister. Brooke smiled back, her pretty face a mask of pure joy as she took Sam into her arms once more, and hugged her tightly.
The entire Study hall suddenly erupted into loud applause as they all watched Brooke and Sam walk away arm in arm.
"Oh how pathetic!" Nicole managed to say despite the fact that she too was smiling.
There she goes
