There was a knock on the door followed by a quiet request for entry.

“Come in.”

“Hi.”

“Hi.”  She put her book down, the biggest the brunette had ever seen her friend reading.

“Can we talk?”

“Certainly, what’s up?”

She patted the bed next to her and t lanky brunette sat down next to her best friend.  A long silence followed and then a gentle prod to get things going.

“I love you.  I’ve always loved you, since that first practice when you caught the quaffle and gave me the most brilliant smile I’d ever seen.  It warmed me then and still does every time you grace me with it.”

Silence met this earnest proclamation until the brunette bravely pressed on.

“And now the Leaving Feast…I had to tell you I just had to.  Say something, please… anything,” she pleaded.

“Now the Leaving Feast.”

“I know but I was afraid, afraid you wouldn’t understand or that you would hate me; be disgusted or something.”

“I could never be disgusted by you.” She sighed. “I thought you and….  I thought you were happy with….”

“I was.  I am but… but it’s a school thing.  Don’t get me wrong I love her, really I do.  But I’m in love with you.”

“Does….”

“She knows, of course she knows.  We spoke for hours last night; said our goodbyes.  Of course she knows.”

“Of course.”

“Listen I don’t expect you to feel the same way but I had to tell you.  I know I would regret it my whole life if I didn’t.”

“I see.”

Before the blonde could further embellish the brunette leaned over placed a gentle kiss on her friend’s cheek, got up and left.  She went down to the Common Room and her lover, now her ex-lover.

“How did it go?”

“All she could say was ‘I see’.”

“Well at least you said something.”

“At least that’s something.”

They stayed talking until the fire was nothing but embers.

Just then the other girl came into the room, “You didn’t let me finish.  I love you too. I mean I’m in love with you too.  It doesn’t have to be a school thing.”

Ginny got up leaving them alone in the common room, in front of the fire.

“You love me too.”

“I love you so much, you don’t know.”

With that they kissed for the first time.

“I’ve loved you since that first quaffle and that brilliant smile you gave me,” Katie said repeating Alicia’s words of earlier in the evening.

“There’s still the matter of the Leaving Feast.”

“I know but there’s the summer and the year after that and every year after that for as long as you want it.”

“I want.”

“Good”

They kissed again, this time long and deeply.

“Really good.”
