Authors Notes: Daniel is very different in this fic but hopefully not too different.

All she could do was stare at it. That little piece of plastic that had just turned her whole life upside down. She didn’t know what she was going to do. They’d talked about having children, but this wasn’t the way they’d been expecting. Shelley continued to stare at it, willing it to change. But it didn’t. It stayed the same colour, giving her a positive result and giving her relationship with Sam a negative one. How could Sam forgive her for getting pregnant after all that they’d talked about. Their nights with Daniel had stopped a few weeks ago after Sam found them on the living room couch. Sam decided that she didn’t want to be around them anymore and had told Shelley that it wasn’t working for her. Deep down she knew that Shelley would continue to see him without her. Sam had tried not to think about.

Shelley picked up the test kit and looked at it again and began to cry. She couldn’t stop it, she didn’t know what she was going to do. Would she tell her, would she tell Daniel?

“Shell, are you ready, we’re going to be late!” Sam shouted from their bedroom.

Sam opened the bathroom door, seeing Shelley crying in front of her. Shelley turned her head as Sam wrapped her arms around her.

“Hey, baby, what’s wrong.”

Sam gently brushed Shelley’s hair from her tear soaked eyes, kissing her forehead.

“Don’t. I don’t deserve it, I don’t deserve you.” Shelley said, moving away, sitting on the edge of the bathtub.

Sam didn’t understand. She moved towards her love but stopped as she saw the test kit on the shelf in front of her. Shelley continued to sob, trying to catch her breath as she forced out how sorry she was.

“I’m sorry, baby. I don’t know how it happened. We were careful, we were, I promise.”

Sam just stood frozen to the spot. Part of her knew that this could happen, that her attraction to Daniel would cost them their relationship. But wouldn’t let Shelley go without a fight. After what they’d gone through to get to where they were, having people except them as a couple and having Shelley come to terms with the fact that she could be in love with another woman. There was no way she was going to let Shelley go.

“Are you sure? Have you been to the doctors yet?”

Shelley shook her head.

“That’s the second test I’ve taken. I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”

Sam sat on the bathtub next to her, reaching out her hand to hold Shelley’s.

“Ssh, don’t cry baby, don’t cry. It’s going to be okay.”

Sam didn’t know if it was going to be okay!

“Have you told Daniel, yet?”

Shelley shook her head.

“No… I can’t Sam, I can’t.”

“I think we’re going to have too. I think we all need to talk about this.”

Sam had always been the one who was a thinker, sitting down and talking about the situation they’d gotten themselves in, however hard it was.

“What are we going to do?” Shelley asked.

“I don’t know, but I know I don’t want to lose you, I love you.”

Shelley rested her head on Sam’s shoulder, looking up at her. She could see the disappointed look on her face. Sam wouldn’t tell her how upset she was. Shelley felt that she’d betrayed her. No matter how hard she’d tried, Shelley hadn’t been able to stay away from Daniel. There had been something between them that neither of them could stop. It was purely physical, even if Daniel had told her that he was in love her. The whole situation was a mess and had just gotten worse. Sam held Shelley’s hand tightly whilst her other arm was wrapped around her, letting her cry on her shoulder.

They talked about nothing else on the drive to the base. Shelley was still upset about finding out that she was pregnant! Since they’d been together, they had talked about having their own children somehow or adopting. They were in a committed relationship, even if Shelley had slipped. Being with Daniel didn’t stop her feelings for Sam, nothing could ever do that. When they’d first got together, Shelley had found it difficult to accept that she was in love with another woman but it was made easier with Sam’s understanding and love. No one had ever made her feel like that before and now, not even Daniel made her feel that way.

They walked down the corridor near to Daniel’s lab, hoping that he wasn’t going to react badly to their news. Sam had already told Shelley that no matter what the outcome, they would stay together. That no matter how she had gotten pregnant, that their baby was a blessing.

“Do you want me to come in with you?” Sam asked.

Shelley shook her head.

“I don’t know.” she said.

“I could tell him if you want. It might be easier coming from me.”

“You don’t have to do that.”

“It’s okay, I don’t mind.” Sam said.

She kissed Shelley quickly and softly on the cheek before entering Daniel’s lab. Sam saw him at his desk, working quietly. He looked up at hearing voices coming from outside.

“Hey Sam!”

Sam couldn’t help but feel a little satisfaction in what she was about to do. Telling him that he had gotten her girl friend pregnant. Even if it meant having the image of them together going through her mind. At first, it had been a turn on actually seeing them together. But as Daniel’s feeling for Shelley became apparent, it had gotten harder and harder to watch. That’s when she had decided not to be apart of their relationship anymore. At first, Sam had thought that Shelley would see him behind her back, and after that night, she had only seen Daniel 3 times. Feeling it was best if they stopped seeing each other, not wanting to risk her relationship with the woman she loved.

“I need to talk to you!”

“Sure, what’s up?”

Sam took in a deep breath before speaking. She thought about telling him gently, letting him discover the truth on his own, but instead just decided in just telling him straight out.

“Shelley’s pregnant!”

Daniel looked up at her, in shock.

“What!”

“She found out earlier. I thought you should know.” Sam said.

“Thank you?”

Daniel didn’t know what to say, he was in total shock. He thought they had been careful. He knew that Shelley hadn’t wanted to hurt Sam but now it seemed that they had.

“Is she okay. Why didn’t she tell me herself?”

“I thought it better if she didn’t and to be honest, I didn’t want her to talk to you.”

Daniel stood up from his chair.

“I’m sorry. We didn’t mean for anything like this to happen.”

Sam sat down in a nearby chair, shaking her head.

“It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t have insisted that the two of you… I just thought that sooner or later she’d leave me anyways.”

“Sam, she loves you.” Daniel said.

“I know. And I love her more than anything.”

“Has she decided what she’s going to do?”

They had talked about it a little on the ride to work and had decided one thing, they would stay together and had come to an important decision.

“We both want this baby. But, we agree that it won’t be a good idea if we stay here. I’ve been offered a position at R and D, its important, and we’ve decided it’ll be a good thing for us.”

“What about me?”

“We won’t stop you from having contact, Daniel. We just need to get away.”

Daniel shook his head.

“I think you just want her away from me.”

“Can you blame me?” Sam shouted.

She didn’t want this to end in an argument, but it was heading that way.

“Maybe you should put some of that blame on Shelley, too.”

As soon as Daniel said it, he knew it was a mistake.

“I can’t blame her. I blame myself more. If I hadn’t have asked you too…,”

Sam didn’t want to say the words, but needed to get it out.

“… Seduce her, then none of this would have happened,” she added. “Seeing you together at first was a turn on but… when I saw the two of you on my couch I saw that it wasn’t sex, you were making love, that’s when it hit me.”

“What?”

Sam stood up slowly, wanting to make a clean get away.

“When the two of us got together, she wasn’t sure about us, she wasn’t sure about being with another woman. Maybe I forced her into something she wasn’t ready for.”

“Even if you did, do you think she’d still be with you if she didn’t love you?” Daniel asked.

Sam hadn’t thought about it that way.

“I guess not.”

“You know her, you know the kind of person she is. Believe me, she loves you. You mean more to her than I do. I think it was just physical.”

“But you love her?” Sam asked.

There was a long pause before Daniel answered.

“I do. But I love her enough to know that I’m not what she wants. She wants you, Sam. That’s why she ended it with me a few weeks ago. She wants to be with you, she loves you.”

“I do,” A voice whispered from behind them.

Both of them turned around, seeing a tear stained Shelley behind them. Sam walked towards her, opening out her arms, pulling Shelley towards her.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” Shelley cried out.

“It’s okay baby, it’s okay.” Sam cooed. “It’s okay.”

Shelley fell into Sam’s arms, feeling safe.

“I want to take her home.” Sam said. “Could you..”

“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it.” Daniel said.

Daniel watched as Sam lead Shelley towards the elevator. It just started to sink in that he was going to be a father. He was going to be a father!

It was quiet on the way home. Sam occasionally looking across at Shelley who was snuggled up against her. Luckily it wasn’t that hard to drive like that. It was something of a regular occurrence.

And the mood, didn’t change when they got home. Sam always thought pregnant women looked very sexy. Even though Shelley was only 3 months, she still thought she was going to look sexy, that she always looked sexy.

Sam had missed the feel of her body. The way her skin felt, every curve. The feel of her lips on her body.

Shelley lay naked underneath Sam, who was smiling down at her. She felt her body pressed against her, her hand gently between her legs, teasing her after her completion. There was nothing like the feeling of having her body against hers. Sam smiled as began kissing her. Shelley ran her hands down Sam’s back as they kissed. Sam felt Shelley’s hands everywhere as her lover flipped her over so that she was now under the redhead. Sam grinned, running her fingers through her hair.

“You’re so beautiful,” Sam said. “Our baby is going to be beautiful.”

Shelley moved, laying in Sam’s arms, pulling up a warm sheet around them as their legs wrapped around each other.

“I still have to talk to Daniel, you know!”

Sam nodded.

“I know. Then we have to tell everyone we’re going away for a few months. I thought we could take a few days off, just be by ourselves for a while.”

“I’d like that, especially if it means not getting out of bed.” Shelley said.

Sam giggled.

“Are you feeling better now.”

“I still can’t believe it, we’re going to have a baby.”

Sam couldn’t help but smile. Despite how it had happened, Sam was looking forward to being a parent. Sharing a child with the woman she loved. Sam kissed Shelley’s forehead, holding her tighter in her arms. For the first time all day, she felt as though everything was going to be okay.
