Brooke was in her room contemplating whether she wanted to give Sam the gift she had bought her for Christmas. She had put a lot of thought into it and would be devastated if Sam didn’t like it. It was a plain silver bracelet since Sam hated gold. The blonde’s feelings toward her rival had turned into love which frightened her at first. She thought it was just a little crush but realized it was more than that when she started thinking about Sam every second of everyday. And don’t even get her started on her dreams involving the brunette. Brooke sighed and went over to her bed with the small wrapped up box. She heard a knock on her door and quickly shoved the box under her pillow. Sam walked in and watched Brooke suspiciously.

“What were you doing?” Sam asked.

“Minding my own business,” Brooke answered.

“What’s under your pillow?” Sam asked.

“My mattress,” Brooke replied.

Sam glared at Brooke. “You’re wanted downstairs. We’re about to have a family meeting.”

“A family meeting?” Brooke repeated.

“Yep,” Sam nodded. “I know nothing about it. Did you do something bad?”

“No. Did you?” Brooke asked.

“Of course not,” Sam smirked. “I’m a good girl.”

Brooke rolled her eyes. “I’ll be down in a minute.”

Sam closed Brooke’s room door and headed back downstairs. Brooke took Sam’s present and put it in her drawer and then went downstairs.

When Brooke got to the living room Sam was the only one there. “Where are Jane and my dad?”

“Discussing something in the kitchen,” Sam said.

“I hope this doesn’t take an hour,” Brooke said. “I have better things to do.”

“So do I,” Sam said.

Mike and Jane walked into the living room and sat down.

“I bet you’re both wondering what this is about,” Mike said.

“Uh huh,” Sam said.

“Well, Mike and I are going away for the holidays,” Jane said. “You two are going to have the house to yourselves.”

“There won’t be a party this year,” Mike said.

“What?” Brooke exclaimed. “I always throw a party.”

“I know,” Mike said. “And I’m sorry but you can’t have an unsupervised party.”

“Mom,” Sam began. “My friends look forward to this party every year.”

“I know honey,” Jane said. “But you just can’t throw one this year. Maybe they can throw one.”

I throw the Christmas party,” Sam said. “They come. Not the other way around. And it’s last minute.”

“Calm down,” Mike said.

“What are we supposed to do on Christmas?” Brooke asked.

“Spend it with each other,” Mike replied. “You can get to know each other better.”

“We’ll kill each other,” Sam said.

“No you won’t,” Jane said. “Come on, tomorrow’s Christmas can’t you at least pretend to get along?”

I wish we didn’t have to pretend. Brooke thought. I want Sam to love me like I love her.

“Fine,” Sam said. “When are you leaving?”

“Now,” Mike said. “We’ll call when we get there.”

“Where exactly are you guys going?” Brooke asked.

“To visit my parents,” Mike said. “I’ll tell them you said hi.”

“Okay,” Brooke said.

Mike and Jane left the living room and went to the front door.

“What about your suitcases?” Sam asked.

“Already in the car,” Jane replied as they left.

“Okay, there are three things I’m thinking right now. One, our parents really want to see Mike’s parents. Two, they really want to get away from us. Three, they’re really going to a hotel,” Sam said.

“Ew,” Brooke said at the last comment. “Not something I want to think about.”

“Trying seeing it,” Sam muttered,

“You’re joking?” Brooke asked.

“Nope,” Sam shook her head.

“Two years ago on the kitchen floor,” Sam said. “I’m scarred for life.”

“I bet,” Brooke said. “So, what do you want to do?”

“I‘d love to just sit here and talk to you,” Sam said. “I mean, if you want to. I have nothing better to do.”

“I’d like that,” Brooke smiled.

It was Christmas day and Brooke was on the phone with Nicole.

“I can’t believe they said you couldn’t throw your party,” Nicole said. “And they left you with Spam. That’s awful. Do you want me to come get you?”

“No, I’ll live through this horrible day,” Brooke said. She really was looking forward to spending today with Sam but she didn’t want Nicole to know that.

“Okay, but if you need someone to put Spam in her place call me,” Nicole said.

“Okay Nic,” Brooke said. “Bye.”

Brooke hung up the phone and went to find the brunette.

Brooke found Sam shaking the Christmas presents under the tree. “How old are you again?”

Sam smirked and got off of the floor. “Too old to be shaking the boxes under the tree.”

“As long as you know that, Brooke said.

“So, what are we going to do today?” Sam asked.

Brooke shrugged. “Homework?”

“Are you serious?” Sam raised an eyebrow.

“We can get it out of the way so we don’t have to worry about it later,” Brooke said.

Sam sighed. “Okay.”

Brooke and Sam were in Brooke’s room working on their trigonometry homework.

“This is getting boring,” Brooke said.

“When was it fun?” Sam asked.

“Good point,” Brooke said.

“I need a calculator,” Sam said.

“We’ve been sitting here for twenty minutes and now you ask for a calculator? What have you been doing?” Brooke asked.

“Doodling,” Sam answered.

Brooke shook her head and got up. She went over to her dresser and picked up the extra calculator she had. She thought for a second and grabbed the gift for Sam also.

Sam jumped when a dark blue box landed on top of her trig book. “What’s this?”

Brooke looked down and then back up at Sam. “I kinda got you a gift.”

Sam was at a loss for words and then she said, “Will it explode when I open it?”

“You got me,” Brooke said. “This was one of my attempts to get rid of you.”

“Maybe you should try poison,” Sam said.

“I’ll keep that in mind for next time,” Brooke said.

“I didn’t get you anything,” Sam said becoming serious. “Is there anything you want?”

“It’s okay,” Brooke said.

“Are you sure?” Sam asked.

Brooke nodded and smiled as Sam stuck her tongue into her cheek. “Well are you going to open it?”

Sam slowly unwrapped the present and Brooke rolled her eyes. “I thought you were one of those people who rip open their gifts like a savage.”

“Oh, just incase you wanted to be cheap and use it again next year I want to be careful not to rip it,” Sam joked. She finally got the Christmas wrap off and opened the box. She stared at the bracelet in awe. “It’s beautiful. Thank you.”

“I wanted to get you something nice,” Brooke said. “You don’t have a lot of nice things. I mean… you have a lot of nice things. Just not a lot of jewelry. Argh, that so came out wrong.”

“I get it,” Sam smiled at the embarrassed blonde. “Thanks again. Are you sure you don’t want something. I’ll buy you whatever you want.”

Brooke took the bracelet from Sam and put it on for her. “Don’t worry about it.”

Sam bit her lower lip and got up. She hugged Brooke which surprised the other girl.

“There is one thing I really want,” Brooke said after awhile.

“And what’s that,” Sam asked as she pulled away.

“You,” Brooke whispered.

Sam for the second time in less than an hour was at a loss for words. “You want me?”

“I thought it was just a little crush but then it turned into full on lust and now it’s love and I tried to ignore it but the feeling wouldn’t go away. And I tried avoiding you but that’s kind of hard when I live with you and I have you as a lab partner. I even tried dating Josh again but that just made me want you even more. You’re just so…. you and I love that. I’ll understand completely if you don’t feel the same way,” Brooke babbled.

“Brooke,” Sam stopped the girls rant. “I feel the same way. I’ve always felt something deep for you. I just ignored it like you tried to do. It was much easier to fight with you than get along with you when you were sexually frustrating me.”

Brooke smiled. “There’s something else I want.”

“And that would be what?” Sam asked.

“A kiss,” Brooke replied.

“I think I want the same thing,” Sam smirked.

Brooke brought her head closer to Sam’s. “Merry Christmas.”

“Merry Christmas,” Sam said as Brooke captured her lips.

“Now seriously,” Sam said as they broke apart. “What do you want for Christmas?”

“All I want this year is you,” Brooke said as she kissed Sam again.
