Summary: Dance like nobody's watching, love like you've never been hurt.

I remember two tiny high heels, perched on top of the booth table, one of them tipped towards the glasses. I remember the crowd, standing, applauding, cheering us on as you draped yourself against my body, your hair wild as you thrashed your head from side to side. I remember the noise of the crowd as I spun you, as we came together and burst apart. I remember your back against my front, my hands on your stomach, my lips on your ear. I remember you holding my hands and guiding my steps.

I remember kissing you hard, I remember kissing you softly, I remember the crowd cheering as the sweat poured underneath our dresses. I remember seeing your bare feet, clad in stockings, as they moved in faster and faster circles as you twirled around me. You were a dervish, a whirlwind, a maelstrom of activity and life and wonder and the dancing was so fantastic. You were fantastic. A miracle of motion...

I don't remember what songs were playing. The music was an immaterial part of the dance.

Your teeth when you smiled. The lines around your eyes when you squinted. I remember your breath against my neck, your arms looping around me, your hands on my back as you let me lead you.

I remember feeling your heart pound as we danced. It felt like making love fully-clothed in front of a room full of strangers. My reaction when we got home should've told you how much I enjoyed it.

I remember dancing, touching you, holding you, spinning you, a moon orbiting the planet of Janet, watching as you let go of your inhibitions and your restraints. You were beautiful that night, Janet, you were fantastic. When I close my eyes, I see that moment, when you fell against me and our lips met. I loved stealing kisses from you that night. It wasn't a gay bar, it wasn't very far from Colorado Springs. But neither of us cared. We just needed that dance, those kisses...

I remember holding you close during the slow dances, feeling your sweat on parts that weren't covered by your dress. You were sweating on me and the thought still gives me thrills. We kissed softly during the Elton John song and your fingers on either side of my face said I was yours. My fingers on your hips repeated the affirmation.

The songs came to an end, the night ended with a passionate session in the bedroom. The dresses are tucked in the closet, likely to not be worn again soon. We've fought, we've made up, we've gotten angry with each other. You tried to throw me out, I begged at your feet for a second chance, and a third and a fourth. It's been six years since that dance together, seven years since the first night you asked me to your bed.

Right now, the radio is playing softly in our bedroom and I'm watching you sleep. You're a beautiful, beautiful woman Janet and every night I thank God that you're mine. That I'm yours. That we found each other against all odds. I'm going to get into bed in a minute and I hope I don't wake you.

I love you, Janet.

We're still dancing under that spotlight, in a way. When I dance with you, my feet never get tired and my legs never ache. I want to dance with you for the rest of my life, Janet.
